After re-watching the Hogan/Rock match on youtube, I am still absolutely stunned about how electric that crowd was throughout the match. When Hogan out powers Rock, and flexes, the crowd goes completely ballistic. I don't know if I've ever seen anything like that.
That rings up, ten years later, the next "Dream Match" of this generation, Rock/Cena. There is a year of build, in Rock's hometown, and will almost certainly go on last. It has all the makings of getting a crowd to be as good as it was in Toronto, but it will be tough.
So what do you think? Will Rock/Cena get the same type of reaction that Hogan/Rock received? Personally, I don't. I think the crowd will be red hot, but what made X8 so special was that the crowd was split. I think the crowd in Miami will be so pro Rock that it won't be able to achieve the same reaction.

Hogan and Rock were both already legends by 2002. For this one... the vast majority of the audience tuning in to see Rock's return will be, at best, vaguely familiar with Cena's name.

Rock/Cena will be exactly like Hogan/Rock, only with Rock playing Hogan's role this time around. The crowd will be just as epic.

rock/hogan will probably have the better atmoshphere. Not to say Rock/Cena won't be good, but Cena will probably be booed, or the Rock will outcheer him significantly in his home town.

You guys might be right about the crowd booing Cena, but I think it would be pretty epic to see Cena get booed and treated like a heel in the main event of Wrestlemania. I'm hoping for Cena vs. RVD level heat, or better.

Does home town advantage even work? Because the majority of the crowd comes from over sea's or from other states to see Mania. Its not as much home town crowds as say a taping of RAW or Smackdown. Plus its in a bigger venue as compared to Mania 22 in Chicago where the crowd was very much pro ECW and Punk.

I highly doubt that people who don't normally follow WWE closely enough to know who John Cena is are going to be ordering the show.

Any match with The Rock in it will have an atmosphere that is simply, ELECTRIC! When The Great One's music hits and the millions, AND MILLIONS of Rock's fans are standing on their feet they will begin to chant his name....then the Rock will electrify the crowd like only he can....CAN YOU SMELLLLLLLLL WHAT THE ROCK....is cooking?!

Aside from hometown fans, most wrestling fans overall are more likely to cheer the Rock over Cena.

They won't top the first match. The charm of Hogan/Rock was WWE underestimating just how big the Hogan comeback really was. Toronto basically cemented him as the greatest star ever that night. We all know Cena is getting booed big time. That's not surprising anymore.

I dont really think so.
Part of the magic of hogan vs rock was it didnt feel manufactured,on screen it didnt seem as if it was presented in the buildup as the epic thing that it was. It was like the wwe completely forgot that hulk hogan was hulk hogan.
So it came across like this magic moment that just sort of happened.
Rock/Cena seems an attempt to make a magic moment. Granted,i'm not saying that it wont be good or that it might not be special but there's no way it can compete with rock hogan.
Plus a big part of rock vs hogan is the younger guy getting booed and even though in reality rock had started to get booed before that, people always remember that match as the jumping off point or the cementing of the crowd sort of turning on rock. Cena has been getting booed forever. It wouldnt be as special to see cena booed. It'd just be another john cena appearence.
Plus cena is not in the same stratosphere of star power of hogan or rock.
I think the match wont have so much the dynamic of"we're so happy to see these two wrestle"and"wow its hard to choose"that rock/hogan had but more just the dynamic of the entire city of miami wanting to see rock kick cenas ass.

I don't think that it will be anywhere near Hogan/Rock, mainly because Hogan made that match electric. Hogan could have been against anyone that night and the atmosphere would have been absolutely amazing. Rock/Cena will have a good and entertaining atmosphere but it won't near Hogan/Rock IMO.

I don't think anything will top Hogan/Rock. Because while the Rock is still the Rock, John Cena is not Hulk Hogan. The star power in the Hogan/Rock match was stronger in that match than it will be for Rock/Cena so therefore I don't think the Hogan/Rock match will be topped.

The fact that 7 people (so far) have voted Cena/Rock is a joke
