Has Apex Predator for Orton really caught on?
I mean I guess as they keep calling him that but most signs and such I remember seeing of him are RKO, and the chants are usually Randy Orton or generic cheers...

Speaking of Skip Sheffield, don't forget "The Cornfed Meathead". And speaking of cornfed, "The Cornfed Colossus", Festus.

Matt Striker is pretty much the patron saint of this thread. THE IGNITER, THE FLASHPOINT, THE LIVEWIRE THE GILDED ONE, THE OUTCAST, THE LONE STAR The Japanese Stratocaster. Yes he called Yoshi Tatsu that once. In his defense, The Poison Fist of The Pacific Rim may have the greatest nickname to never catch on.

I'm surprised that people even watch Superstars closely enough to remember stuff from the commentary.

A few years ago, Cole insisted on calling Randy Orton the "Iceman".

A few years ago, Cole insisted on calling Randy Orton the "Iceman". A few minutes in the Cloverleaf backstage put an end to that.

A few years ago, Cole insisted on calling Randy Orton the "Iceman". Randy Orton has gold/red themed titantrons, his animal avatar (the viper) is generally associated with the desert, and his two first post-Evolution themes were " Burn in my Light" and "This Fire Burns". And, from all of that, Michael Cole got Iceman? I'm becoming more and more convinced Cole doesn't even watch the product.

He's a cold, calculating, pyscotic induvidual. So it kinda makes sense in that context.

In his defense, The Poison Fist of The Pacific Rim may have the greatest nickname to never catch on. That I will agree with Speaking of Yoshi, I remember them trying to get "Cardiac Kid" over as a nickname on commentary. Also, "Heart and Soul Superhero" for Zack Ryder didn't catch on, unfortunately. This was after he retired Tommy Dreamer and beat The Hurricane in feuds.

You don't want to see Orton become 'the Fireman'. That way lies a Firebreaker Chip gimmick. Sean Mooney used to try to get "Advance Man for the Grim Reaper" stuck to the Undertaker. I also remember Vince trying to get "Fareek" applied to Farouq, back in the Nation days. Recently, yeah: Mister Ziggles. The Samoan Bulldog/Dozer .

"The Army Tank With A Ferrari Engine"
Why not just call him "The Tank?"

During the "Billy B----cakes" promo, JR really seemed to want to get "Bitter Billy" to stick. Too bad the former didn't either

"The Army Tank With A Ferrari Engine" Why not just call him "The Tank?" It doesn't make any sense because even 60's era tank engines are more powerful than Ferrari engines. A tank with a Ferrari Engine would be a very slow tank. EDIT: Unless that's exactly what they meant.

I like Apex Predator for Orton.
I also enjoyed Mark Henry's blurb in the World Heavyweight Championship title history saying he turned the "Apex Predator into prey with the World's Strongest Slam"
