Funny how this list excludes anything before 1988. Punk's reign would be a dot compared to Sammartino's 2,803 day reign. I know it was a different day and age but that 8 year long Bruno reign is still astounding to me. To put it into perspective, when John Cena won the WWE title for the first time at Wrestlemania 21, even if he never lost it and held it to this day he still wouldn't have broken Bruno's record yet! With the amount the guys today are on TV and PPV I think a year long reign like Punk's current one or Cena's in 06-07 is probably equivalent to like a 3 year reign in the 80's or a 5 year reign in the 60's/70's. And looking at the top 5 of combined days as champion with Bruno, Hogan, Backlund, Cena and Morales and I honestly don't expect that top 5 to ever change.

These longer reigns always have a funny sort of meandering style past five months or so. Then a few months later then realise he's had it for a while and start to focus on the longevity.

I like how both of Hogan's longest reigns have been passed by Cena by only a few weeks.

A long reign is one thing. A long reign with absolutely no change or real threat at all is another. Every single Cena reign is exactly the same as the last. I'm perfectly fine with Punk's long reign, as it hasn't been a carbon copy of his previous ones. There are actual developments happening with him. What are you talking about? One of those Cena reigns is his first one, which was much different from a recent ones. And again, I loved the 380 Cena reign far more than Punk's. Not even close. I had a dog who loved to eat tennis balls. It doesn't mean eating tennis ball is better then steak.

Well, he's only down to 30 days to pass Big Daddy Cool Diesel.
I guess it is looking more and more like at least, he will walk out of HIAC with the strap.

He's also now passed fellow Paul Heyman guy Brock Lesnar for total combined days as WWE Champion, and will pass Diesel on Tuesday to jump into 12th overall on that list.

Well, here he stands at 343 days.
So, so close to one year.
Is this where it all ends tonight at 343?
We shall see.

I'll be thoroughly PO'd if they let Punk keep the title until Survivor Series and then have him lose it.
Why?
Because Survivor Series would mark day 364 of his reign, one short of a year.

I don't want it to end now to be honest, for a while anyway. At least give him a full year with it.

That's pretty wild that Austin's only on that list once

That's pretty wild that Austin's only on that list once and even more that The Rock's not on it all

What are those two other Backlund reigns? Every historical site I've ever seen, including WWE itself, discounts the Antonio Inoki title win, and counts Backlund's first as one continuous reign.

Right now, I was going to say he's the longest reigning heel WWE Champion. However, he started out as a babyface and became a heel, similar to the Macho Man. So if he overtakes Macho Man in the next month, he'll be the longest reigning heel as a WWE Champion.
There were opinions and rumours of Punk keeping the belt till Wrestlemania and going over the Rock at Royal Rumble, and Rock have another big match at Mania.

I'm really hoping this ends tonight. This day and age a title run has no business being a year long.

So close to the full year I really hope he hangs on to the title tonight but I doubt it.
