Should his next title defense not be until Survivor Series, another 21 days away, the following will happen...
*Punk will pass Diesel's 1994-1995 reign in 15 days to go to 9th overall for longest individual WWE Championship reign, and equal Hulk Hogan's 1989-1990 reign on Survivor Series Sunday to go =8th. Should he win that title defense, he will almost certainly take 8th outright, and only be one week away from passing Randy Savage's 1988-1989 reign to go 7th (which make this reign the longest by any man who was heel for any part of his reign). He would also be the first man since John Cena in 2006-2007 to hold the belt for longer than a full year. *In terms of accumulated days as WWE Champion, Punk will remain 12th, as there would still be a few days gap between him and 11th placed Shawn Michaels by Survivor Series.

Marquee title reign. Its like Diesel! Diesel - Survivor Series 1994 to 1995 CM Punk - Survivor Series 2011 to 2012 Business is down. Ratings are down. PPV buys are down. Hmmm..... Diesel indeed. Don't forget that neither of them actually main evented Wrestlemania during their run and played second fiddle to a football player or wrestler-turned-actor. I suppose this means that Ryback is the new King Mabel.

PPV buys arent down.
Ratings for Raw are down but generally the WWE has 8 hours of TV a week now, so ofcourse you've got less general viewers.

Survivor Series is 2 days before him making a full year. If they build the match up right (in the limited amount of 3 weeks) it could be epic. Hell make Punk defend it the night after Survivor Series (if he wins) as well, really makes him reaching a full year feel important.

He's been champion for close to a year.
If done right, they could make a star out of whoever bear him.
Instead, The Rock is gonna beat him at the Rumble.
Ass backwards booking, IMO

If done right, they could make a star out of whoever bear him. And that is exactly why I believe he will drop it at Mania to whoever wins the Rumble.

I like this idea and I think I know exactly who it should be facing Punk.... But in all seriousness dropping it at Mania, in the last match, against the Rumble winner would be a great stamp to end his reign with (and help the Rumble match after the past few years of being degraded). It's just a question of who is opponent would be in this situation?

If the WWE were to have a superstar win the Royal Rumble and end Punk's reign at Wrestlemania, the only person they'd trust with such a huge push would be Cena.

PPV buys aren't down, they're actually going up, and on top of that Punk hasn't been the main focus of any of them until NOC and HIAC. But please, continue on without researching.

Come on, even Vince isn't stupid enough to give the belt to a part-timer like The Rock.

I like the idea of Kofi as the next WWE Champion. He's kid friendly, so he would work on all formats of TV. It's odd they have kept Punk and Kofi away from each other on TV for 4 years now. I don't seem to recall them ever having a program or match against each other, I only remember them as Tag Team Champions.

It's just a question of who is opponent would be in this situation? I'd like to see a lower card guy get a sudden super-push, but it would have to be someone who can be believable in that role. The only low card guys who I think would believably put up a decent fight against the WWE Champion if given a match against them Santino, Swagger, Kidd, McIntyre, Riley, and maybe Ryder. If they go with Punk/Rock at the Rumble, I'd like to see Punk retain and then Rock insert himself into the Royal Rumble match and win.

So, with Punk in a non-title match at Survivor Series, does that almost guarantee that he'll make it at least to TLC?
