Bartolo Colon had some freakishly good games last year, too. Also helps that he was pitching against Seattle. Looks like the Yankee rotation is shaping up to be (not in order obviously): Sabathia Nova Kuroda Garcia Hughes Pineda's probably going to start the season in Triple A because he wasn't so hot in spring training and then bring him back up. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when Andy comes back. I assume Garcia either becomes a long man or gets traded to someone who needs a veteran pitcher. But no clue what happens after that. Hmm, that's really interesting/confusing with Pineda. Are they that concerned with his lack of velocity this spring?

The talking heads are thinking it's a disciplinary measure because Pineda apparently showed up to spring training out of shape. He's still a really young guy so I imagine it's only to give him some seasoning and see how their current rotation works, then if someone gets hurt or really underperforms, like Phil Hughes at the beginning of last season, then they'll call him up.
As I understand it, Sabathia and Kuroda are right now the only sure bets as far as places in the rotation secured. They're keeping tabs on Nova and Hughes since they're both really young and I'm sure Pineda coming back to the majors is going to be a matter of "when" than "if." The kid's got potential to be a real superstar.
It's going to get really interesting to see what happens when Andy comes back, but I guess "too many good pitchers" is a nice problem to have.

I said this before, but I'm going to say it again: the Astros are not going to win 50 games this year.
However, this is the first year of the Astros without Ed Wade killing the team, so hopefully they'll have some moments in their final year as a National League team.
Plus, I have my AL alternative: the LA Angels, and Albert Pujols. Speaking of which, I agree with Bill Corbett's comments during their riff of the Star Wars Holiday Special: if they made a candy for Reggie Jackson, how come they haven't made one for Pujols?

Well Livan Hernandez was unemployed for about half an hour and has signed with the Braves.

Why oh why would anyone willingly cheer for the LAnaheim Angels? Because I cheered for them in my younger days, especially in 2002, when they won the World Series with the Rally Monkey in tow. When I started doing research for a project, I ended up becoming an Astros fan.

Someone should tell Jose and Hanley that the "Sisqo" look wasn't working 12 years ago, and it certainly isn't working today.

I know he cut his hair off for charity but he just looks weird. I think there's a Marlins policy where you can't have hair beyond shoulder length, so that's why he cut his hair. Yeah, the dye job looks really stupid on both of them.

"Aw, son of a bitch." Of course, you take good young pitching over a supposed DH every time, but damn.

Pineda's a long term investment. There were rumors that he'd be starting out in AAA to season him further so hopefully this is only a minor setback.

AJ Burnett took batting practice today and...bunted without incident. Haha. He's progressing really nicely and should be back quicker than expected it seems. Glad to hear it.

Yankee prospect Dante Bichette Jr. has hit 2 home runs today. Both were on the first pitch. Unreal.
