This ballpark is so gaudy, ridiculous, and over-the-top. A 70-ft tall statue with animatronic dolphins. Lime green walls that make my eyes bleed. Fish tanks that will probably have several "floaters" over the course of the season.
And yet I can't stop looking at it. For all its criticisms, at least it's completely unique.

At least it's a ballpark for baseball.
They played 20 years in a football stadium and only had 2 years where the fans really showed up.

At least it's a ballpark for baseball. They played 20 years in a football stadium and only had 2 years where the fans really showed up. And even then, those fans showed up when the Marlins were in the playoff hunt. I'm not really a huge baseball fan, but I am intrigued to see how the new Marlins do tonight against a Pujols-less Cardinals.

I just turned the game on in time for the first pitch so if they explained this earlier forgive me but why does it sound like Terry Francona is watching the game at home and calling it over the phone?

Well, you can build a new stadium and spend hundreds of millions, but they are still the Marlins, down 2-0 in the top of the first.

Say what you will about how gaudy the Marlins' new park is, but at least it's built for baseball and the retractable roof helps out tons, both for dealing with the rain and player/fan comfort during the hottest and most humid Florida summer days. It's also in a much better location than Sun Life.
There's a certain charm to the whole thing that I really like. I usually don't like these really contemporary parks. I'm more of a fan of the traditional looking parks with modern amenities. But it just works here.

Now someone hit a HR so that eye sore in center field can explode.

Ha, sweet defense on that grounder. Same old Marlins.
And yeah, the skyline of downtown Miami is the best feature of the ballpark. Beautiful view.

Some hard hit balls in the 2nd inning but everything else has pretty much been weak contact from the Marlins.

6 innings!
Kyle freaking Lohse, who is not exactly Clayton Kershaw, has given up no freaking hits!
The Cardinals- nobody ruins a good story quite like them.
