Triple H/Undertaker has got to be, for me anyway, one of the most over rated matches in WWE history.

Triple H/Undertaker has got to be, for me anyway, one of the most over rated matches in WWE history. Thank you, finally somebody who agrees. It really wasn't that good. It was basically "ooh, let's see how many times we can kick out of each other's finisher." And I always remember the part where Triple H - who was so dead set on ending the streak remember - raping 'Taker with a steel chair to the point where he was laying motionless, and then... sits on the ropes waiting for him to get up! For what felt like an eternity as well. No, sorry. Really don't get the love for this match, and never will. Cena/Punk from MITB, and most other matches on this list > it.

I disagree with both of you.
It was one of those matches that relies on the story it tells rather than its actual ringwork. It was "Sports Entertainment" at its most dramatic. HHH threw EVERYTHING at Taker, through a table, through the Cole Mine, f***ed him up with a chair, 3000 Pedigrees, and then the Tombstone.
Taker looking for a fight despite being an absolute mess, and then to boot, the moment where Taker grabs him by the throat dramatically, only for the look of disgust in HHH's face. Sheer brilliance.
And the Tombstone kickout was insane. To put it into context, I was bored shitless from a mediocre Mania, kinda tired watching it at 12-4AM in England, and feeling like it was a waste of money. And then these two came out and woke me back up. When HHH had Taker in position for the Tombstone, I was on the edge of my seat thinking that surely HHH was gonna end it all for good. And then the kickout. I lost my shit. HHH crawling away across the ring in sheer panic as well. That was a WrestleMania moment.

Undertaker vs. Triple H wasn't better than any of the Orton vs. Christian matches.

HHH/Taker had a couple of awesome moments, like the reaction post-Tombstone, and HHH's struggling to keep hold of the sledgehammer in the Hell's Gate, but two nice moments doesn't make the best wrestling match.

WWE.com putting Taker/HHH is so unsurprising, I won't even bother getting upset about it.
They would do that.

Last year, HBK/Taker tied with Bryan/Ziggler. This year, Punk vs. Cena was obviously a better match, obviously had more riding on it, a much better angle going in, a hotter crowd, really everything you can ask for in wrestling.
But HHH/Taker was better. This feels like a Hunter move to me.

They left out the awesome Bryan vs. Sheamus series of matches from this year too.

I agree with Triple H vs Undertaker being #1. It was way above anything else on the list.

And then these two came out and woke me back up. That's funny because I actually fell asleep during that match. I was reasonably enjoying it too, but the Hells Gate got locked in and I drifted off and woke up when the bell rang.

Looks like someone still wants to be Shawn Michaels.
Personally, I thought HHH/Nash at TLC was a much better-paced, more exciting match than HHH/Undertaker. And neither of them deserves to be anywhere near the top 10, let alone #1.
Still, besides that and the baffling Orton/Barrett inclusion, this is a pretty good list IMO.

I’m in the minority here in that I thought Taker-HHH was a phenomenal match. It had that special something to me that only one or two matches a year have. HBK-Flair had it in 08. Taker-HBK had it in 09-10. Rock-Cena will probably have it in 2012. HHH-Taker and Cena-Punk were those matches for 2011. This was a 30 minute war with two guys trying to kill each other and I was enthralled the whole way through. And for all the talk of how “half the match was them laying around selling” (the criticism I most often hear of the match), I recall there being more dead time in the other pedestrian midcard matches on the show that only went 10-15 minutes. This match saved this years ‘Mania for me. HHH/Taker had a couple of awesome moments, like the reaction post-Tombstone, and HHH's struggling to keep hold of the sledgehammer in the Hell's Gate, but two nice moments doesn't make the best wrestling match. A match full of awesome moments with a rabid crowd does make a great match though, in my book. - For a start, the entrances were amazing and the entire arena was buzzing for the bell ringing like no other match on the card. - The look on Taker’s face when he gets back up after being speared through the Cole Mine and the whole arena is collectively like “oh shit, now he’s pissed!” - HHH taking that sick bump to the floor off the backdrop from the announce table then coming back and putting Taker through the table with a spinebuster. - Taker’s annual WM suicide dive. - Playing off the finish of their WM 17 match with HHH escaping the Last Ride from the corner this time and countering into the Pedigree. - Perfectly executed chair shot to the head (he got his hands up at the very last second and the camera angle was fantastic so not to make it obvious) that looked like it KILLED Taker. - The image of Taker unable to stand afterwards and having to be carted off. All those moments as well as the two you mentioned were great to me. And that’s why this match (closely followed by Cena-Punk) is MOTY to me. Months later, all those moments have stuck with me. All the other matches on the list outside of those two you’re lucky if I remember anything outside of the finish. Again, I know I’m in the minority here, but I really thought this match was incredible and more than worthy of any MOTY honors.

Honestly, while I loved the Taker / Triple H match and still do on rewatching it I don't get the hype the Tombstone spot's gotten. I thought that was incredibly transparent since no one ever beats Taker with the thing, and it was stalled out for too long. The one thing that really fooled me was when Triple H was in Hell's Gate and managed to get ahold of the sledgehammer.

Both #1 &2 should have been a tie in my opinion. It's too close to call it because they were both really good matches. Cena and Punk had a tremendous technical match and went all out, totally living up to the hype. Taker and Triple H had an all out attitude era brawl, and for two guys who havent seen much action in 2011, it was a really great match. I wouldn't say it was like the HBK match because they were two different styles of matches, but it was really good nontheless.

No Ziggler vs. Punk from Raw? That match was really good. That is a strange one to leave off the list, I'd go so far as to put it in 3rd place although I know it wouldn't be that high on the WWE.com list as it wasn't an important match.

Taker/HHH doesn't even deserve to be on the list. Sure it told a story, but it was a Grandpa Simpson story; rambling, long, and really no purpose.

Man, I love the Trips/Taker match but, it's nowhere near close to Cena/Punk from MITB.
