Can anyone think of a real reason why it isn't? Especially in these PG days it seems like it would make a lot of sense to put the show on earlier so more kids could watch it.
I know when RAW starts are 8 now everyone forgets to watch the first hour, but if it was on at 8 every week I think it would be better for everyone.
The only thing I can think of is that it's better to start later so that they have time to film Superstars, but I'm sure there is another way around that.

Basically, it's been in the 9-11 spot for so long that they don't want to move it. Wrestling fans are creatures of habit and people who watch Raw are used to watching in that time slot. As you mentioned, everyone forgets when Raw starts an hour early so why take the risk of making a permanent change there when they can just keep the 9-11 spot.

After a few weeks I think people would make the switch, especially with the right promotion. I did forget about the whole time zone thing. That's probably why it's on at 9 on the east coast

Taping matches before Raw is a big reason why. It wouldn't matter so much on east coast shows, but for west coast shows, Raw would go live on USA at 5:00 PM local time if it moved to an hour eariler.

Every time they've had a three hour Raw the first hour has always had less viewers than the other two.
That might change after enough weeks of having them on at the same time, but I would definitely have them wait until football season is over before they even contemplate such a move. And there's also no guarantee that the ratings would remain at the same level that they did before they were moved.

It's 6-8 here on the west coast.
Any earlier than that would mean people who work a conventional 9-5 schedule would miss the first few segments.

Yeah, because there's a gap between east coast and west coast, if it was any earlier, you'd suffer in the West Coast because they wouldn't be able to see parts of it live, and filming on the West coast would screw with the schedule because, honestly, you're not going to have a good crowd at 5 pm on a Monday.

8-10 EST is 5-7 PST, which is way to early, and would hurt their ratings.

...funny, I thought West Coasters got it at their 9 as well. A friend of mine who lives in Oregon does.
Unless he just doesn't know it also airs at 6 over there as well.

Yeah, they get it at 9 their time, that is why you don't see many, if any, west coast people in the live threads here. Though depending on their service provider, they can get the east coast/live feed and the west coast/taped feed.

The few of us that were able to will be getting even fewer since Time Warner, the largest in SoCal, replace the east coast feed for the HD NVC Universal channels (USA, SyFy, Bravo), with the west coast feed. I think they chose 9-11 is because they pretty much have the 10-11 spot (Main Event time), all to themselves in terms of programming.
