Although I'm not overly thrilled with some of the teams, I'm still very much looking forward to attending all three night of King of Trios. This will be the first time I attend King of Trios live.

At the very least, there should be some really interesting match ups...especially on days 2 and 3 when some of the teams are eliminated and they can do some singles matches.

Pardon me while I climb up on my soapbox. This past weekend, the cast and crew of CHIKARA staged an event at the Reading Phillies' First Energy Stadium for the benefit of a local non-profit organization called Baseballtown Charities. With your help, we were able to raise $700 for this worthy cause. This event holds a special place in my heart, because I grew up in Reading, and I lived in Berks County for almost 30 years. Baseballtown Charities is centered in Berks County, and it is undeniably "Readingesque," to coin a term.

My grandfather was a pro ball player, and later on in his career helped coach The Rising Sun Sunners to regional, then national, and then international acclaim in the world of fast-pitch. While pro-wrestling has always been my passion, I have a deep-rooted love and respect for America's pastime.

I am grateful for the 140 people that turned up and made their donations to Baseballtown Charities, but I know that we could have done more. Weeks prior to the event, the Reading Phillies organization reached out to the Reading Eagle, my hometown newspaper, for support and promotion of the event. Other than a 2 sentence blurb in their weekend bulletin board, they were not interested to spread awareness of the event. Certainly an easy human interest story could be found here, if for no other reason than I am a native of Reading. The reporter originally considered to pen such a piece, strangely enough, was an old high school friend of mine. But neither he, nor the Reading Phillies, could coerce anything more from the paper. Two sentences was all they could manage.

In my mind, the Reading Eagle did the bare minimum to help Baseballtown Charities and their partners at the Reading Phillies. Then, in a haughty, condescending follow-up after the event had passed, they insulted me, the cast and crew of CHIKARA, and anyone that loves our artform by terming our appearance at the stadium to be "slapstick." Had they spent even one-third of the ink and space used for this lazily-written review to promote awareness of our charitable event, perhaps our donation could have been much larger. At the end of the day, the Reading Eagle proclaims a mission statement of "serving the Berks County community and surrounding areas for over 140 years." They are based in Reading, the seat of Berks County. CHIKARA is not. Yet, it was CHIKARA that came to the aid of this cause-in-need on Sunday afternoon, August 12th.

I have taken my grievances about this exact matter to the editorship, and the executives in charge of the Reading Eagle. Why would they not help us? Why insult the men and women that charitably gave their time and energy and sweat to help a worthy cause? They have ignored me. The work of CHIKARA, the needs of a charity headquartered just blocks from the Reading Eagle's printing presses, these are unworthy of a response from the decision-makers there. They have found us to be unworthy of their attention.

My guess is that they hope, simply put, that I will just go away. Before writing this to you, I was advised: "this is like fighting city hall. You cannot win." But I am simply too stubborn to accept that. And I need your help. I challenge the Reading Eagle to do right by the community they serve. Match CHIKARA's $700 donation to Baseballtown Charities. Help me urge them to do something positive for the community. I believe in the power of professional wrestling to make real, positive changes in people's lives. Let the Reading Eagle find this out about CHIKARA as well. If we cannot command their respect, together, we can command their attention. Help me make a difference.

Wasn't it based in the Arena? If so I'd think that probably threw a huge monkey wrench into things until they found a new place and set it up. Plus Claudio left and I think Quack was injured shortly before or after that with back issues so they probably ran behind.

The place they moved to is about 5-7 mins from my house. In comparison the Arena is about 35-45 mins away. So the move isn't that big of one.

A group of people based out of the Lethal Wrestling Alliance promotion out of...France, was it? I can't recall. They're most notable however for having a "LWA Showcase" match at Night 2 of King of Trios in 2009 which is known by a ton of CHIKARA faithful as probably the WORST match in the history of the company. It's as bad as people say, trust me.

Now they're back in this year's KOT (to answer your second question; all four people were in the match in '09) to raise hell on all of us. Mostly because Wink is incompetent. From the "BTS" side of things, I have heard they gotten MUCH better, and I'm sure that they're in on the joke that they had one of the worst matches ever a few years back, so they're here as pretty much a heat magnet (and to answer what Amigo said, I'm sure 85% of the crowd will be aware of THAT match from '09. KOT usually brings in the hardcore CHIKARA crowd). Pretty clever if you ask me.

They're from St. Louis. LWA doesn't exist anymore, they now help run a promotion called St. Louis Anarchy, which is an offshoot of Anarchy Championship Wrestling in Texas, in which they also appear.

Mike, sorry but the article wasn't some affront to Chikara. Yes, it was far from what I'd call great but they far from did anything to make Chikara look bad.

Could they have given the charity show some promotion, sure but the ballpark/team would have been better off requesting that than a (and face facts with this) a company that is far from well known.

Be proud that you raised $700 for charity and challenge them to help you next time, not take offense that they called a company with wrestlers that are Ice Creams, ants and insects and have guys with pumpkins and baseballs for heads among other things slapstick.
