I think it's because nobody knows what irony is.

This thread has convinced me that irony doesn't really exist. It's a made up word used to confuse students.

I'm glad we've got so many people around willing to police what is and isn't irony.

Steve Austin, Mick Foley, and Triple H being so important in the Attitude Era rise of the WWF and defeat of WCW, all previously being discarded by WCW

Irony is the opposite of the expected result. My sixth grade teacher always used two examples when we learned about irony: "The fire station burned down" and "The teacher failed the exam".

I honestly do not get this joke Alanis Morissette had a single entitled "Ironic" that includes the line "It's like rain on your wedding day, it's a free ride when you've already paid". So it's like Kane instead of rain. And Kane is somewhat infamous for his roles in two WWE wedding disasters.

Savage joining the NWO when it was Hogan turning on Savage that effectively began the NWO

As a side note, irony is a tough thing to define (that even dictionary panels disagree on).

Has there ever been a segment between two wrestlers that are in disguise, and the audience knows who both of them are, but neither of them know who the other guy is? That would be one of the better examples that could happen in wrestling.
Also, any of those moments where the heel is celebrating, and goading the crowd, who is slowly cheering louder and louder because the babyface (usually someone huge, the best example was with Hogan and Giant) is standing behind them, the heel completely oblivious and better yet thinks the cheers are for him!

Rock mocking Cena by singing about his wife, only for Cena to file for divorce within a year or thereabouts.

(imo) Irony is basically; Stuntman joe completed his last jump over 50 cars and landed making his whole career without breaking a single bone. The next day he slips on a banana peel and fractures his leg.
The irony here is he did dangerous things all the time, but it was something safe that caused him to break a bone.
The op's one about booker is a good example.
So Undertaker catching on fire due to pyro is ironic because it's his brother whose gimmick is all about fire.(kayfabe)
