So my dad gave me a ton of old comics. I know nothing about comics or how to find their prices and I was hoping to find the value of them on my own but don't know where to begin. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I assume they print comic book price guides like they print sports cards price guides. So I'd look one of them up and go from there. Those are far from absolute, but it could give you a decent baseline of what these might go for.

Just type in the name and number of the comic online and it should give you an idea. One small rip though can really knock down the price.
You could also take a trip to your local comic book shop and they could give you an idea.

www.comicspriceguide.com/Though there are a bunch of websites out there. There are also print magazines dedicated to pricing but I couldn't tell you which ones are still around. If you do have any comics that are potentially valuable, you should find out a few things (a lot of info here, feel free to just check out what you think is of use) 1. What condition it is 2. Whether or not the comic is a 1st printing; most comics after the first printing have little value from a collector's perspective 3. Whether it would be worth your time and money to have the comics graded by CGC, which may increase the value of the comic considerably. There are some collectors, including comic book stores, that won't buy comics unless they have a grading while others don't care as much about it CGC website: www.cgccomics.com/grading/A couple of things to consider: Golden Age (comic books from the 30s-40s) and Silver Age (comic books from the 50s-60s) tend to be the more sought after issues. While certain individual issues are prized, such as the first appearance of Spider Man or Iron Man or Giant Size X-Men #1, you'll make more with a complete set of a comic book. There are various variant covers from more recent comics that are quite valuable as well.

Unless they're from the 60's or earlier, there's a likely chance you aren't going to get much for them. There's a few examples noting otherwise, but the market just isn't there, unless they're extremely old.

search comicbookrealm.com or comicspriceguide.com to start off. And local comic book shop is a great idea too. Is there any way you can give us a list of comics?

Tell us some of what you have. If for nothing else than you might have something really valuable and then we can all share in the excitement of telling you. Or lying to you and jerking your chain

You could also take a trip to your local comic book shop and they could give you an idea. I'm planning on trying to sell the whole lot of them to the local comic book shop owner and I know if I go in there with no knowledge as I am I'll get fleeced.

They are all in pristine condition having been sealed in ziplock bags for literally decades.
Thanks for the links everyone.
I'll post when I find out much much money they are all worth.

What are the differences between Raw Value, Graded Value and NM Value and how do I tell if the comics are?
This is what I found using comicspriceguide.com and if they are all at Graded Value and in mint condition.
Action Comics #436 $168 Action Comics #436 $168 Superboy #218 $168 Detective Comics #455 $264 Detective Comics #461 $216 Detective Comics #469 $408 Daredevil #249 $160 DC Comics Presents #4 $120 Superman #333 $72 Superman #313 $72 Superman #274 $240 Detective Comics #432 $336 Thor #161 $800 Daredevil #37 $800 The Phantom #60 $300 The Phantom #61 $300 Blackhawk #247 $120 Blackhawk #253 $36 Blackhawk #255 $36 Blackhawk #256 $36 Blackhawk #257 $36 Blackhawk #258 $36 Blackhawk #260 $36 Blackhawk #261 $36 Blackhawk #262 $36 Blackhawk #264 $36 Blackhawk #268 $36 Blackhawk #271 $36 Blackhawk #273 $36 Green Lantern #155 Volume 2 $48

Graded basically means you took it to an official, trained person and they scrutinized the book for condition. It's the same way for trading cards, you have to pay to get it shipped off and graded, but if it's graded it could be worth more.
Raw value basically is what they might sell a ungraded one in a retail store at that condition. If you don't pay to have it graded, that's what it is.
NM = Near mint, which is self-explanatory, really. Mint cards/comics are usually preserved very carefully. For comics, I imagine that anything that has been actually read or not preserve in hard casing would probably not likely be mint anymore.

If you sell it to a store, at best you may get 33% of the value, more likely 25%. And a lot of shops don't even buy from individuals anymore, they go to conventions or sales. Check them out on ebay or possibly craigslist.
