American Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, so that review is welcome!
I have an incredibly stupid annual tradition of watching BLOOD FREAK every Thanksgiving. It's a film in which a biker does drugs and becomes a turkey-headed blood-drinking monster. I kind of love it.

Got a free Walmart gift card and used it to randomly buy The Mummy: Complete Legacy Collection DVD.
Excited to work my way through the set, mainly because the later entries go off the rails so hard and decide to have mummies in New England and that's precisely the brand of batshit I like.

Pieces *DVD* I like this early-1980’s splatter/slasher but I remember it being gorier. Maybe since I’ve seen so much filth since I last saw this I’ve got too high (or is it low) expectations from my garbage? As far as I can tell I didn’t get an edited or cut copy. The goriest part I remember is the cute tennis girl getting sliced and that scene was still intact. So I guess I’m just too far gone and desensitized. Still a good, gory splatter-fest.

Still one of my favorite horror movies. Me and my friends watch it and repeatedly dunk on Kendall for being such a blatant Mary Sue haha.

The faux Bruce Lee cameo is one of the most random ass things I've seen pop up in a movie.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the Beginning *Amazon Prime* It took me forever to realize that this was a prequel to the remake. I swore I’d seen it before. It’s one of those movies where you’re supposed to be rooting for one side but that side kicks off so annoying that you end up rooting for the other side and waiting for R. Lee Ermey to just kill them. Plus it’s a Michael Bay production. So there’s nothing redeeming in this other than knowing that all the psychos survive in the end. I’m not sure if there’s any Easter eggs hidden here that lead into the previous/next movie. But it is better than the Leatherface origin movie.

Harvest of Fear *DVD* A poor mans Friday the 13th. Like, really poor. Electricity’s been cut off, Employment Insurance has run out, “they’re going to break my knees if I don’t pay up soon” poor. The filming quality looks good. There’s some boobs. But the acting is some of the worst I’ve seen in a long run if movies with bad acting. The piss-poor script doesn’t help. It’s terrible across the board but the worst has to be the lead Ryan Deal, only because he gets top billing in this movie. He has this permanent smile/smirk that makes him look like every shot is a headshot. The violence is pretty lame. Lots of throats get slashed. A bit of variation would be nice: It’s really funny that it doesn’t seem to bother the people that know what’s going on too much. Police, parents, obvious victims; no one seems too worried or surprised. ”so our friend got impaled by a pitchfork...but we payed for the place for six more days and we’re seniors!” That’s seriously the logical processing the group of kids has. Honestly, that’s dumb enough to make me keep watching. There’s been a plethora of dumb logic in horror movies but that takes it to a new level to where I have to see where this goes. “Got a condom?” “I have one in my car, I’ll be right back!” “For a lighter?” “I must have left it by the barbecue, I’ll be right back!” Possibly the worst horror movie I’ve seen. And that’s saying a lot. And not even in a “it’s so bad it’s good” way. This is just so bad it’s bad.

Red Riding Hood (2003) *DVD* A sort of vigilante tale of a delusional teenage girl seeking revenge on people committing what she sees a wrongs with the aid of her imaginary dog...thing. It sounds a lot better than it is. The audio is horrible and muffled. Especially the girls. Which is unfortunate since she has a lot of dialogue, including first person and commentary. The music and video is really cheap. But the violence is a lot better than I expected. It’s not “great” but it made watching the movie worth my time.

Lowriders vs. Zombies from Space *Amazon Prime* I watched this because the poster thumbnail had the word “boobs”. That’s all it took to get my interest. But I don’t know what the hell this was. IMDB said it was a horror/comedy so I’m not sure if it was a parody of Latino lifestyle or not. It really wasn’t funny. At all. Everyone was always really mad at each other. But again I don’t know if that was a parody or not. The whole thing is less than an hour long but still takes forever to get going. It sets up a whole bunch of characters getting together for a low rider party or something. There’s lots of shots of the street from the point of view of a passenger in one of the cars. Then the bouncing cars, which still confuses me if this is a comedy or not. And some terrible rap music. It felt like I was watching Grand Theft Auto V, which I’m fine with since I loved that game. But it came across as very wholesome. I really doubt Fridays in San Diego are this tame. I ended up fast forwarding a lot of it because it was just torture. The zombies finally show up almost forty minutes into the movie (or two thirds in) and then it’s just a mess of bad special effects and confusing mayhem for twenty minutes. Seriously, one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. And there were no boobs.

I misread the title as "Love Riders".
I actually haven't watched any movies (horror or otherwise) since October ended, but I did read Thomas De Quincey's "Suspiria De Profundis" since it was at least a partial inspiration to Dario Argento and Daria Nicolodi's Three Mothers series of films. The book is 100 pages of prose writing about grief as a general concept, but drawing from De Quincey's personal loss of two sisters in his formative years. The four pages that detail Levana and the Three Ladies of Sorrow are interesting enough, but the overall book has very little in it that would be of interest to horror fans.

I watched this slasher movie on Amazon called Sorority Party Massacre last night. For a movie with that title there was hardly any boobs or cheesy fanservice, so that was a bit of a let-down to the part of me that's still a horny teenager. It was also hilariously problematic, featuring Kevin Sorbo and Ron Jeremy just a couple years before things fell apart for them both (not that Sorbo's an eighth the chode that Jeremy is). Also the main character is a Dirty Harry clone whose penchant for police brutality is played entirely for laughs (Oh, 2014...). It's a movie that on paper should have been a lot more fun than it was. They shoulda gone full Troma but gave us something too tame and bloodless to at least be fun. But hey at least the guy playing the murderer put in a good performance the movie doesn't really deserve.

Spawn of the Slithis *Amazon Prime* There was a little bit of potential in this one but it was ultimately just boring. When the creature is on screen it’s entertaining, but it felt like it was only in five minutes of the movie. The gore and blood was good but there was even less of that. What was left was ninety minutes of some Steve McQueen look-alike snooping around for a scoop. The music really reminded me of Jaws. That’s all I got.

309. Violent Shit - the Movie *blu ray* I bought this thinking this was the original Violent Shit but instead it’s a sort of reboot/homage to the original series that was made some fifteen years after the original series and involved none of the original team. It has more budget in fifteen minutes than the entire original series had overall and none of the charm. None of the hilarious dubbing. It’s like one of those Leatherface bottom-of-the-barrel origin movies. There is some great gore and some boobs but it’s really slow. I really didn’t like the intro scene. The chubby little boy yelling “nein! Nein! Nein!” as his mother abused him really got to me. The cannibal orgy at the end was pretty funny though. And they somehow got Goblin to do the soundtrack, which is good. I did order the entire original series as I was watching it.

Not sure if this falls under “horror”? If not the master of the thread can delete it. Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf *Amazon Prime* This way better than the Megashark movies because it didn’t take itself serious at all and was a little more graphic in the violence department. The CGI and everything else was just as top-notch.

It was a baseball player that the lead villain injected with animal DNA and I missed if whale DNA was included. But it was really funny. I actually recommend it.

Skinned Alive *YouTube* A pretty funny ultra low-budget horror comedy with some good gore and a family so f***ed up they make Leatherfaces seem pretty normal by comparison. I do think the version I found on YouTube was somewhat edited, since there was one scene with a nude corpse hanging in the basement but the crotch area was clearly blurred out in some much later post-production.

So since I've still got SUSPIRIA and the Three Mothers on my brain, I figured I'd share this: Luca Guadagnino had plans for a sequel/prequel to the remake of SUSPIRIA that probably won't happen because the flick didn't make any money: www.themarysue.com/suspiria-sequel-1200s-scotland/As I've mentioned ad nauseum, I loved the remake, so I would've liked to see where Guadagnino took the concept from there. Shucks.
