The Big Box of Shit (as it is called on the spine of the DVD case) came in the mail yesterday! I already watched Violent Shit and Violent Shit II: Mother Hold My Hand. They more than live up to the hype! I love how the second one looks like it is going to be structured more like a standard narrative film. It begins with a reporter talking about some recent copycat killings. But that turns out just to be a framing device and for roughly the next hour you just get more wall to wall insanity. I’ve been waiting to see these for years so I’m glad adamclark52’s reviews made me finally track them down

Plaguers *Amazon Prime* A bunch of sexy space pirate nurses hijack a space freighter but the tables are turned when they accidentally unleash an alien substance that the freighter was transporting that turns them one-by-one into unstoppable mutant zombies. The acting is some of the worst I’ve seen, and I’ve watched almost all of Andreas Schnaas’ ‘Violent Shit’ movies multiple times in the last few weeks. The makeup is pretty good though and the gore is way better than I expected. The director took a lot of inspiration from Alien, right down to casting some guy who looks a lot like Lance Hendrickson as the android member of the freighter crew (which gives that guy a bit of grace for his absolutely horrible acting). But Lambato Bravas ‘Demons’ was an even bigger influence on the movie. The sounds the mutants make and the style of makeup, not to mention people “turning” in a matter of seconds, is a direct homage to that movie. So you could almost call it “Demons in Space”...just don’t because this doesn’t belong mentioned in the same breath as those movies. It was bad and I usually love bad. But the acting was so terrible that it brought it down a few notches. Most of the cast are probably usually extras in SyFy original movies. They could have redeemed it with some boobs but I guess none of the cast wanted to hinder their careers. Looking at their IMDB profiles I’d say being in Plaguers was a bigger hinderance. All that said once it got going I actually kinda liked it.

I’m about to check out Zombie ‘90. I think I first read about that movie in the very early 2000s or heck maybe even the 1990s on some horror forum that most likely no longer exist. First I finished up the Violent Shit quadrilogy My first impressions are I’d rank them like this: Violent Shit II Violent Shit III Violent Shit Violent Shit 4.0 But I’m sure I’ll watch them again at some point. Maybe I’ll have a different take then I actually ordered the remake at the same time I got the box set for these, but that one is shipping from California and I’m on the other side of the country so...going to be a while

I just ordered the Violent Shit collection, plus American Guienna Pig Song of Solomon Blu Ray.
Been wanting to see Song of Solomon. IIRC it has Jim Van Bebber in it. And supposedly they followed the rite of exorcisim out of the Catholic book on that subject.
If Violent Shit collection gets here in time might watch it Xmas Eve.

You ordered yours off Amazon too, right? I’m guessing because a different American Guinea Pig film was suggested to buy as a bundle when I got mine. If you ordered on Amazon you’ll probably get it before Xmas Eve. Amazon was even better than usual when I ordered mine. A warehouse in Massachusetts had it in stock apparently as I ordered it Wednesday and it was on my doorstep by Thursday morning. The only thing is it’s a shame all us other online sellers have to compete with them lol.

Don’t Speak *Amazon Prime* This tries to be something but it’s just a A Quite Place ripoff. But let’s just call it a pseudo prequel. Even though there’s only one monster and it’s an isolated incident in a small town. The monsters design really reminded me of the Feast Monsters too. That box art is totally misleading. But it acted totally different. It also borrows heavily from Aliens and is also very similar to Pitch Black. It was okay but it was kinda surprising that they introduced the monster so early. The Jaws route is usually more effective. But in the case of this it really didn’t matter because no ones going to remember this movie anyway. It’s pretty stupid because the characters somehow keep quiet without knowing they’re supposed to keep quiet. The dad figures it out somehow and I don’t know if I just wasn’t paying attention or a few scenes got cut or something. Then after they learn they’re supposed to keep quite the mom does one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen a person do in a horror movie. Like, I actually blurted out ”what the hell are you doing!?” at the TV. And it gets dark really fast. Thankfully there was some nice blood splatter and gore and even though the monster was a complete rip-off of Feast those monsters were cool. The guy playing the monster actually had great movements. The whole movie is just about the monster.

But I’m going to go with: Violent Shit Violent Shit II Violent Shit 4.0 Violent Shit III I was just in love with the camerawork and the ultra low budget ness of the first one. And the music. It was way more arty. I just watched the last twenty minutes (the Jesus scene and the birthing scene) without blinking. I may watch it again this week (for a third time) but I really want to drop some LSD first. I don’t do that stuff but the first two times I watched it I was buzzing pretty hard off booze and acid will give an entirely different experience. Probably not in a good way. The remake/reboot is fine if you take it on its own but it doesn’t hold a candle to the OG four. I ordered it by accident thinking it was the original first movie.

I thought the music really helped too. It has some obvious technical limitations, but given all the other technical limitations these films have, the music really stood out. IMDB has a review of the first film by someone claiming to be Mickey Engels, the composer for the first film. Pretty sure it’s him. I mean who else would claim to be the composer of Violent Shit? But then the Internet never surprises me. Anyway, he said he had to make the music in 4 days since the filmmakers wanted to play it at a festival then. I read elsewhere that the completed score had its master on a VHS tape...that then got taped over. At least one super fan made a recording of the music from the film with some additional editing, but don’t think he ever uploaded it for the rest of us. I was kind of surprised Engels didn’t work on any of the other Violent Shit movies. In fact his only other IMDB credit is a 2013 short film.

I was curious if it was added sometime later than 1989 though. I wouldn’t be surprised since the audio quality on it is pretty good. Also, the first one has a WASP song in it. It was so under the radar for so many years that I think whoever owned the rights never knew enough to sue, so now it’s just fair use. Or something. Likewise Zombie ‘90 features a snippet of some mainstream pop song in the sauna scene. I think it’s “Rhythm is Gonna Get You” by Gloria Estefan though I’d have to go back and watch it. Same deal as the WASP song.

Parts of the Family (original version) *DVD* A bank robber takes the wrong damsel hostage. Firstly, I labelled this “original version” because Troma released two versions of this movie on this DVD. This, the original version and their own reimagining of the exact same movie. I don’t know what that means really but I’ll find out tomorrow night when I watch the other version. This version starts out pretty f***ing boring. It’s mostly a thriller that takes a long time time to get going. The only real positive to the first half was Cecilia Bergqvist being topless for most of it and she is F-I-N-E FINE. She’s even topless in the menu clips. Then at around the 50 minute mark the tone gets turned (as do the tables) and it gets good and crazy. As does Cecilia. The zombies show up and the real “meat” of the movie starts up. It’s a lot like how From Dusk ‘til Dawn completely shifted midway but not quite as extreme. I mean when I watched that movie when I was younger I didn’t even usually watch the first half. This I would (and will tomorrow) watch the first half again. It also really reminded of those Kiwi gore movies like Dead Alive even though this was a Danish/American co-production. The second half is some great low-budget zombie fare and it makes up for the first half being slowerish and not what I really wanted to watch. What exactly is going on is never explained really. No rituals or anything other than Cecilias character being a nut. But when has a lack of explanation ever stopped me from enjoying a zombie movie? It was made it 2003 but the low production values make it look like something from ten or fifteen years earlier and that really worked in its benefit. As do Cecilia Bergqvists boobs. I’m really looking forward to seeing the other version tomorrow.

Parts of the Family (Tromatic version) *DVD* So the post production team at Troma decided to have some fun with Parts of the Family and edited their own comedy version of the movie. They added their own newscast footage and some monkeying around with the original version. A lot of it is really self-deprecating and funny. They rip the movie and themselves apart. The repeating of the guy slapping the girl when she’s handcuffed to the bed made me laugh every time they did it. I’ve never seen the show but I’d imagine it’s pretty much what MST3K is like. Thing is I really liked the original movie so I didn’t think it needed to be ripped apart but it is what it is. If I watch this movie again I’ll stick with the original.

I watched the original Violent Shit again tonight. The third time in as many weeks. Mainly because I was drinking some strong booze (Hungarian sliovitz, 47%) and needed something that didn’t demand my 100% attention but would end up getting it anyway.

335. Messiah of Evil *DVD* I’ve watched so much off-the-wall, brutal, extreme stuff the last few weeks that going back to a 1970’s giallo-ish horror seems almost boring. Or maybe it’s just my realizing that I don’t really like giallo made this bore me. This did have some cool stuff. The albino man was really f***ing cool. The mood and atmosphere of the whole movie was really good but it never delivered. A lack of gore, a lack of nudity. I think it may have even been rated PG-13 and I’m wondering now what made me decide to buy the DVD? If it had of been a part of one of those multi-movie sets I sometimes buy I’d probably have enjoyed it more than having spent $16 on this.
