Anyone got any suggestions for cheap DVD or Blu-Ray of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre? I don’t care about the bonus features or anything as long as it is a good quality print of the original movie in the original aspect ratio and not a bootleg. I found a copy on eBay for less than 10 dollars, but going by the stills included in the listing alone I think it’s a bootleg. MPI released what I would consider the definitive Blu-ray remaster back in 2014. There's a 4-disc version that's still $30+, but there's also a barebones version with just the movie and maybe a few extras going for $10 on Amazon: www.amazon.com/The-Texas-Chain-Saw-Massacre-Blu-ray/dp/B00L22H576?tag=bluray-050-20&linkCode=xm2&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

144. Swamp Zombies 2* *Tubi* This was really terrible. But the bad kind of terrible. No redeeming qualities not even entertaining terrible. The writing and editing was bad enough but what really killed me was how bad an actor the lead guy Len Kabasinski was. I’ve never heard someone deliver their lines with less life. I could have sworn he was one of the zombies too. The rest of the cast wasn’t much better. The violence was okay and their were a lot of boobs (some hot zombies!) but this is the kind of shit that makes Asylum movies look like Shakespeare.

I ended up getting the steelbook of Texas Chainsaw Massacre Ultimo Gallos mentioned after all! I actually ordered the other one that was posted, but it was from a third party selling through Amazon and they were taking their sweet time sending it out to me. In the mean time that steelbook dropped in price from $25 to $15! I figured the extra $5 wasn’t that big of a deal especially since I’ll probably watch it a bunch. I also picked up Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III while I was at it. Since I already have Part 2 on Blu-Ray I’ll have the original trilogy all on Blu-ray I wanted to get the whole early saga but don’t feel like paying $30 to get The Next Generation on Blu-ray. I mean it’s the crappiest entry of the four so I don’t feel like paying twice as much for it as the other entries. I’ll probably just re-buy the cheapo bare bones DVD I used to have. I’m not sure if I’ll bother collecting the newer films. I have the 2003 one which I thought was atrocious. I saw another of the newer ones which was originally in 3D which I thought was great. I still haven’t seen the other two yet.

TCM IV is the worst of the franchise. Now I haven't seen the newest one just titled Leatherface.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE NEXT GENERATION is actually my favorite one, but I've never really cared for the franchise as a whole, so don't mind me.
Anyway....
THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT (2021) is the third film in the main CONJURING series, and eighth film in the overall CONJURING Universe. Back again are stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively. Longtime director of the franchise James Wan is a producer and had a hand in the screenplay, but handed off directing duties to Michael Chaves (THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA).
Set in 1981, this film sees the Warrens documenting the exorcism of 8-year-old David Glatzel. The exorcism does not go according to plan: Ed suffers a heart attack, and while the demonic entity leaves David's body, it finds a new home in Arne Johnson (Ruairi O'Conner, THE POSTCARD KILLINGS), the longtime boyfriend of David's older sister Debbie.
When Ed awakens in the hospital, he immediately tells Lorraine that Arne is possessed. She attempts to get ahold of Arne and Debbie, to no avail. Arne kills his landlord while in the throws of possession and is then arrested while wandering down the road covered in blood. The Warrens attempt to convince Arne's lawyer to enter a plea of Not Guilty by way of demonic possession. The lawyer is incredulous about it, but ultimately goes along with it.
The Warrens now have to determine the cause of Arne's possession, which leads them under the Glatzel home where Lorraine finds a witch's totem, signifying that David was cursed by a Master Satanist! The curse had been passed to Arne, but now the Warrens have to find the aforementioned Satanist and break the curse before he kills again! This would already be pretty bad, but we can't forget Ed's heart! People aren't supposed to engage in strenuous activity after a heart attack. What's more strenuous than battling demons and their human worshippers?!
THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT, much like the other films in the primary franchise, is slickly produced and syrupy sweet in its morals: love, family, and faith are the greatest tools in combating evil. It's as schmaltzy and about as predictable as a Hallmark Channel original movie. At this point you should know that going in. You should also know by now that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are more than capable of convincing you to root for their versions of the Warrens. Their chemistry is what makes these movies work.
THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT sticks to the formula that brought this franchise success in the first place. It doesn't work as well as its predecessors, but it's still a solidly entertaining flick.

The Asphyx* *DVD* I saw parts of this movie on Saturday afternoon television probably 25 years ago and the floating image of the Asphyx has always stuck with me. I decided to revisit it now. I was expecting to be let down when I finally saw it in its entirety but it was surprisingly enjoyable. Not much happens. It’s not gory or particularly violent. It’s kinda scary though; only for the image of the Asphyx and the shrill screaming noise they make. It’s a pretty cool story too about a late 1800’s scientist attempting to learn the secret to immortality via trapping a persons personal grim reaper the moment before death. It had a really cool 1940’s or ‘50’s movie vibe with the quality of movies made 20 years later, although the special effects are pretty cheap. A good one that I’m glad I never forgot and was able to see again.

What does everyone think of the Psycho movie series? What made me want to revisit the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series was having a kick revisiting these ones. It’s also a very affordable series to collect on DVD! I got the Blu-ray of the original for a couple of bucks then a four movie set of the other ones plus Bates Motel for under $10 on Amazon. In lieu of a full review of each here is a poster and a thought for each: Psycho (1960): A masterpiece from Alfred Hitchcock! 10/10 without question for me! Psycho II (1983): Way better than you’d expect for something made 23 years after the original and without Alfred Hitchcock’s involvement. I’d go so far as to give it an 8/10. Psycho III (1986): Anthony Perkins directed and starred in this one. A decent drop down form II, but still chock full of 1980’s goodness. I’d give it a 6/10 or 7/10. Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990): About the same quality as III. They tried something different and I’d argue it worked well enough and kept the franchise from being too formulaic. If Perkins didn’t find out he was sick while filming and start getting in really bad health I wouldn’t be surprised if they kept going. 6/10 or 7/10. Bates Motel (1987): Rumor was that Anthony Perkins protested the making of this. However more recently I read that this wasn’t the case. He did call it terrible though. And it is! This was intended to pave the way for a series that never happened (the 2010s series is way different). If the TV show happened it may be thought of differently, but no matter what there’s no way to say this was good. 4/10 at best. I still haven’t bothered with the remake or the 2010s TV series.

The Toxic Avenger Part III: the Last Temptation of Toxie* *Bluray* This wasn’t bad per se. It was just kinda pointless. They shot so much footage for the second movie that they split it into two movies and it seems like this one got more of the filler side-story. The girlfriend got a much larger role and she was pretty funny. That’s really it. Not hard to see why they retconned it for part IV.

I remember one of the Psycho movies being very awkward to watch with my mo'om like 10 years ago. It was funny as hell, regardless.

That one has a ton of flashbacks to young Norman. It includes one scene where Norman is playfully wrestling with his mom and pops a boner. So she dresses him up like a girl and locks him in a closet.
