Though I wonder...
Why did Chrysalis made a threat against Canterlot (Shining Armor's words) resulting in Shining Armor raising the shield in the first place? Wouldn't it have worked better if she didn't do anything beforehand?

Wouldn't it have worked better if she didn't do anything beforehand? Being head of the royal guard, Shining Armor probably knew a bunch of protections spells. I guess Chrysalis figured that attacking Canterlot would be much easier if she took down Shining Armor first. |

You know, since he was established as Twilight's brother, I think SA has more of a chance of returning in Season 3 than Cadence.

Casting the protection shield gave Shining Armor headaches. That allowed Chrysalis to cast spells on him without raising any questions. |
