marvel.com/digital_comics They also have a new thing called Marvel AR, which is where you can hold your smart phone up to a comic cover and it'll play you a recap video/motion comic of the highlights you need for that issue.

That sounds nice. Wish I had a smart phone. I have kids instead, which may be more fun.

Wait, does DC have an electronic option as well?

www.readdcentertainment.com/ They do, but I've not heard very good things about it (I ditched all DC after their reboot, so I'm not a member), certainly not the near universal praise I've heard for Marvel's

DC is REALLY behind the curve when it comes to adapting to changes in the industry. it sometimes takes over a year (2 even) after a story is finished for it to come out in trade paperbacks, which are a MASSIVE part of their profits. it would be even bigger if they actually put their shit out on time instead of waiting so long that people don't care anymore when it finally does become available. it's especially egregious when you see how good Vertigo is about putting things out in a timely manner (they make even more money off trades than their parent does). so it comes as no surprise that their online component is garbage too.

USED to. Have you checked out their shipping schedule for the New 52? The big titles are coming out about five-to-six months after the story arc finishes, with lesser titles being released in increments that spread books out over the year. And softcover releases of volume 1 are coming out when the hardcovers of 2 are for sale. So while that is a wait, it's about a year for the softcovers, which isn't all that much worse then Marvel's nine or so month wait for that format. Marvel's still getting thier hc's out after only three months, which is awesome, but DC has caught up largely in that area.

I always thought that if they wanted to go a similar route to the whole Tony Stark change-the-war thing, they could change Magneto around a bit so that he comes from the former Yugoslavia. We all know plenty of atrocities were committed there.

This thought process is why comics are so inaccessible to new readers. I've been reading comics for 25 years, I shouldn't HAVE to look stuff up on Wikipedia to follow the stories. If you've been reading for 25 years, which is a good decade longer than me, when was the last time you had to look something up to follow a modern Marvel story? In fairness to Marvel, not often. But with DC, a lot. (at least before The New 52, which turned me off from most of their stuff anyway.

I think it's interesting that a big part of Superman and Spider-Man mythos...es is their day jobs working for newspapers, which is considered by many to be a dying industry.
I know the Daily Bugle in recent years became a website called the DB, while J. Jonah Jameson became mayor of New York, so that's one way of keeping up with the times, but I have a hard time imagining Clark Kent making a living as anything other than a mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet. And he's already lost the telephone booth to obsolescence, to boot.

Could do what they did in the animated series with Magneto. Have him come from a war torn country with a terrorist attack being what finally kicks him off. Universal enough really.
