So no matter how horrible a crime you commit, you can only serve 21 years in Norway?

So no matter how horrible a crime you commit, you can only serve 21 years in Norway? In theory, but the reality is that they can keep him as long as they deem him dangerous, so in all likelihood, he will never be a free man again.

21 years for 77 murders is insane. The judge should get 21 years for passing that sentence.

21 years for 77 murders is insane. The judge should get 21 years for passing that sentence. He literally cannot sentence him longer. That is the way the law is. When 21 years is up, they review the case and decide if they will let him loose. There is no guarantee that they will, and for his own safety, along with others, odds are he will never be outside of police custody for the rest of his life.

21 years for 77 murders is insane. The judge should get 21 years for passing that sentence. The could not do more then that. That was the maximum he could be given. It may be soft, but's Norway's system and from what I heard it's one of the best in the World. But for this guy, I don't know. I don't think he is going to learn his lesson, feel any guilt or find redemption for what he did. What's going to happen when he gets out? He murdered kids. People remember that.

If they still reserve the right to hold him as long as they see him as a societal threat, he's never getting out.

What a disgrace. This is what he's getting in prison: They're actually going to try to "rehab" this guy?!? It may be soft, but's Norway's system and from what I heard it's one of the best in the World. I disagree with that. From what I've heard about Singapore's prison system, I would say it's the best in the world.

Well yeah, you gotta try to rehab people, this guy will spend the rest of his life in jail, but you have to try and make all criminals into better people, otherwise no one learns and you guarentee anyone released is still a criminal but more bitter and has less to lose by doing something. And I think he might be thinking Norway's is best on re-offending rates and things like that, not just that it sounds like what should happen in jail.

You really think someone isn't going to 'have words' with him in prison ?

Considering he stated he wished he could've killed more, he can rot in prison for eternity for all I care.

Didn't Varg Vikernes only serve 15 years for murdering Euronymous and burning some churches? Norway's judicial system is odd.

It may be odd, but their crime rates and recidivism rates are much, much, much lower than the US, so there has to be something to it.
