For a sitcom that was so drenched in the 90's in look, it's surprising in a way that this show has really stood the test of time above a lot of its contemporaries and remained popular for so long. I think a good reason for this is that, by and large, it really didn't do anything wrong.
Not to say that there wasn't the occasional bad episode or annoying trait that popped up but for the most part, Fresh Prince was a sitcom that knew what it was and decided to do it well. A range of humour was open to it as well as the fourth wall was broken various times to great effect without it really damaging the ability to get into the characters.
Casting was top notch too with my personal favourite being Avery Brooks. I honestly bought him completely as a father figure and was great in every scene he was in. Everyone else was matched perfectly and did a great job although it was a shame to see Aunt Vivian's actress replaced part way through the show.
Constant repeats help as well as its general content make it easy for whole families to watch and the general humour is pretty broad and not fixed to the 90's overly much aside from the occassional reference or cameo.
