Hi I'm new to this forum and a first time poster. Anyway, I was thinking about the upcoming match at New Years Revolution between Ric flair and Edge. It seems to me that Edge might win the match, for the reason that WWE wants to push Edge as a credible contender for the the WWE Title. For that reason Edge cannot afford another lose especially after being out of action for a while. However Edge has said something last year about "Having been the IC Champion 5 times and the belt is not important to him anymore. The WWE Title is the only thing that matters." or something similar to that. My guess is that Edge's obsession with getting the more prestigious WWE title might lead him to disown the IC championship. Thus Vince, or whoever is the GM (if there is one by then) will set up some kind of tournament for the IC Championship. It would probably include people like Murdoch, Helms, Chavo, Shelton Benjamin, and other mid to low card superstars. Leading to a match at the Royal Rumble, which Benjamin (because of his Mama) will win. Either him or Carlito/Chris Master. Leaving Edge to use his Money In the Bank at The Royal Rumble. What do you guys/gals think?

I'm really annoyed by this match, and I don't tend to take huge exception to WWE booking decisions. They've belabored the MITB thing for almost a year, and now have Edge in an IC match? I don't know what sense that makes. And don't get me started on Ric Flair holding a belt that is supposed to represent young talent. It seems like WWE has booked themselves a lose/lose here. If Flair wins, then Edge's main-event push is pushed further back, and Flair still has the belt. If Edge wins, his position is solidified in the mid-card, and he still won't be able to wrestle for the WWE title.

Relax some threads get no replies, others take time then go mad.
The only trouble with the IC tourney some people may think this stops the linage and hurts the credibility of the belt (if it has any left).
Also if Edge disowns it what does that say about the others who want to own it
p.s. Welcome aboard.

He should just take both like Warrior did and have the belts be different colors. yellow ic and a blue WWE.

Yeah, it won't work if they have Edge disown the belt. Eventually we'll wind up with "Sweepin' and Moppin' " Jim Duggan defending it every week, and that works for nobody.

Like tversetti9 suggested there, have him hold both belts. Who better to challenge the unstoppable champion, than the current Intercontinental Champion AND Mr Money in the Bank?...

Edge explained in his promo he thinks Ric Flair is a professional and personal disgrace, and he shouldn't be a champion. He is "liberating" the title for that reason. More of a "Ric Flair doesn't deserve any kind of accolade" thing more than a "I want to win the IC title" thing. So if he does win it I don't think it would halt his WWE Title quest, and the "I don't even want THIS title" option would make sense.
Or he could just not win, which sounds more likely.

Or have Flair outsmart him to pick up the victory, maybe tease a bit of dissension with Lita to finish it.
Edge uses MITB at RR against Cena. Lita again screws him out of the victory.. this time on purpose, and SHE joins Cena! That sir, is how to make Cena a full heel, and seperate the unholy alliance. Where it would go from there, god knows.

I'd quite like to see Edge win the title, then organise his own tournament for the belt. Playing up his arrogance he can explain how he simply wanted to show how old Flair was, which would obviously annoy Flair and one assumes lead to another match between the two because a loss by Flair due to the nature of the fued would damage Flair a little too much, and then go on to say, like someone else suggested, that it wasnt about the title, but thats how he started and now look at him, 'Mr Money in the Bank' and all. This would allow him to cast off the title without damaging it, continue his arrogant gimmick, and get the title back to the mid-carders where it should be. The only problem would be what to do with the Flair fued, i assume a match at the Rumble for them, probably with a stipulation, which would then lead to Edge using the Money in the Bank at No Way Out or even Wrestlemania.....

An Edge/Ric Flair Street Fight-rematch at the Rumble would be interesting, and the Rumble seems to be a show that has had many a street fight over the years, and Edge is no stranger to street fights himself (even has "street fightin' jeans" he wears during all of them). And Flair has proven he can still go in brutal matchups (see: Last Man Standing).

Edge just obeys the rules of a streetfight. The most important one being that at least one competitor has to wear jeans. If nobody is wearing jeans, it's more of a no DQ match than a streetfight.

they could have Ric Flair win it at NYR and then defend it on RAW the next night against whomever, and have Ric Flair lose it by interference by Edge, thus, continuing the feud and having the blowoff match at RR (ie. Street Fight). Then have Edge win that match, and declare he's moving on to bigger and better things, and declares he's gonna cash in his MITB.

Where it would go from there, god knows. cena doesnt need a whore for a heel turn. what really bugs me is that on unlimited a few weeks ago (hell, maybe a month ago), murdoch said he was coming after flair. so we get an edge\flair match?

Unless they turn Edge face, Lita's screwing over a heel, which the fans like, making Lita a face. I mean, does ANYONE like Edge?

Edge and Murdoch join forces and after Edge beats Flair awards the IC title to Murdoch and form a stable but I guess they need more wrestlers.
