Watching the Sandow/Ryder match right now, and JR's trying to make some sort of prescient comment about how both men will be great athletes one day, and JBL completely schools him about how Ryder, being a former United States champion, already is a great athlete. Ross tonight was so far behind Cole and JBL that it wasn't funny. I hope next week it's just Cole and JBL for Raw while JR stays with doing NXT or whatever it is he's currently doing. Ross was a great commentator back during the heyday of yesteryear, if not the best ever when all is said and done. So many classic calls I attribute to him. But in 2012, he can be better used elsewhere than WWE's flagship show.

That's because he's not the JR we all know and love.
It's his counterpart, Evil JR.

I agree with you. Cole/JBL are much more natural together and it got awkward at times when JR tried to interject. I love JR to death, but it's probably best he steps aside.

he's in a weird position as cole is the primary play by play guy here. JR is not best utilized as the color commentator. I'm sure he can still cut it, if he was in either the play by play guy or in a duo rather than a trio

He's been like this for at least 3 years, it's why I cannot figure out why people want him back on RAW so badly. I mean yeah he's one of the greatest commentators of all time but he just cannot hack it anymore on live TV. Give him a taped show like Smackdown or NXT where he can think and they can cover his mistakes and he shines.

It's a sad day but I will agree. JR isn't much of a commentator anymore. He can still call certain moments better than anyone, but overall he's kind of tough to listen to.

There are so many better commentators on the roster, I have no idea why they keep carting out JR.

I said that back in 2006. JR just isn't as sharp as he used to be. He's better than Cole, but if Cole has someone like JBL to play off of...JR is left in the dust.

Have to agree, sadly. I wish they could keep JBL on full time. He brings the best out of Cole, so you just don't need JR.

I do think he's still great, but I would agree that they're better off just going with Cole and JBL.

Been thinking that for a while now, love Cole though. Nostalgic bring backs for JR have gotten old.

To be fair, I doubt that the guy is watching Raw every week

To be fair, I doubt that the guy is watching Raw every week He definitely does, he comments on it all the time. He's not King with the product.

I think J.R. better as part of a two man team and not a three man team.
He used to get lost all the time when he, Vince and King were at the table.
Most times they've brought him back, it's been as part of a three man team and it's hard to get a word in.
Especially when they bring in guest commentators.

Really? His work on FCW/NXT with Regal more than proves he still got it. Being the 3rd wheel just doesn't suit him.

I realised he was passed it when he kept screaming "twist of fate!" each time Jeff hit the "whisper in the wind". That alongside calling him the "rainbow haired warrior" made me realise JR was finished.

I've been saying it also for 2-3 years.
I do think he can continue to play a valuable role in all those WWE round-table history discussions on various topics. He just isn't a viable live announcer anymore.
