I just watched this film and now I feel really angry at how astonishing stupid it was. Did anyone like this film? Sure the creatures were good effects but the actual characters were all complete morons. From the Lawyer to the soldiers. Oh and that ending ... {Spoiler}You shot 4 people including your son because you ran out of Petrol? Are you insane!! Seriously I don't think I have ever been quite so angry after watching a film.

I loved the movie and the ending. I don't really see the need to spoiler the ending at this point, but alright... {Spoiler}He didn't shoot them because he ran out of oil. He was giving them what he thought was a more humane death because he assumed they were about to be killed by the beasts in The Mist. I loved the ballsy-ness of it all.

In times of incredible crisis, many people do/will act completely idiotic. Life and Death makes anything seem rational no matter how crazy an outside observer may perceive it to be.
You can see examples of this almost every day in the news.

One of the few times I have screamed in agony at an ending. It still brings me to tears when I see it.
Such a good movie, I really like it.

All that effort to escape and then to just give up, I don't buy it. (Even if that car had a full tank, it has a days worth of travel continuously at best.) Heck I'm sure he could have siphoned some gas from another car while someone stood guard with the gun. Why is there no Radio? Cars have radios the mains may have gone out but the car radio should still work. I mean from a sheer logical point those creatures couldn't get into the car outside the supermarket or past the metal door. The five of them in that car are safe, they have food and water thanks to dead shopkeeps efforts. They could quite easily have lasted for a several more days in the car, not to mention they have a gun they can shoot 4 of the smaller monsters, heck the big one ignored them. But nope {Spoiler}let's all commit suicide instead Also the Lawyer not wanting to go and look in the back area at the tentacle was dumb, likewise those guys talking about how to explain this to everyone when they have a tentacle on the floor right next to them, just carry it out so everyone can see it. Or heck they could have taken a photo with the mobile phone, just because you have no signal does not mean your phone is dead. Meanwhile the known crazy religious lady in town is claiming it is the end of days, 24 hours later everyone is following her with no doubt or arguments, heck they'll even try and sacrifice a child. The kids in Lord of the Flies held up better than this lot and they had no supermarket convieniences. Oh and how exactly did the lone woman at the start get through the mist to her children? Everyone else who went out died almost straight away, it's absurd. Finally the army clear up guys at the end are just driving about with no sirens or anything else to alert people they are saving them. The more I think about it the stupider this film gets.

When I watched this movie, I literally sat in silence with my mouth agape for a solid minute before I started shouting "WHAT?!" at the people I watched it with.

I liked the ending. A lot of people will get pissed off because you don't get some happy sappy ending. All they tried to do was get as far away as possible, they had no way of knowing if they were going to get away from the monsters or if they were going to die trying. Seeing how easy it was for them to get attacked in the grocery store when they were idle, I can see how he'd act quick to save his friends the agony of a bloody death by monsters.
Great movie, I love all of Darabont's movies besides The Majestic.

This is the Thomas Jane movie right? I've been meaning to download it for a while now since I remember quite liking it.
I remember the crowd in my theater clapping when that crazy church lady got head shotted.

Good movie. It's like a mini Walking Dead.
I thought the ending was bad ass.
Fun fact: Juan Pareja, who played Morales in The Walking Dead, also plays a character named 'Morales' in The Mist.

I have to add to the "loved it" contingent of this thread. The acting is pretty awful throughout but the story/pacing etc is so perfect to me, and the shot.... {Spoiler}of the assisted suicide happening whilst the camera focuses on the outside of the car ...creeps me out.

I liked it. The ending is easy to ridicule out of context, but within the context of the film, it makes sense. After days of experiencing otherworldy terrors, seeing people defy common sense and turn on each other, escape into a world filled with unimaginable horrors (gigantic six legged monsters etc)... in the end.... {Spoiler}They broke down and gave up. It wasn't like they were like, "No gas...well f*** this then..." it was days of compounded emotional trauma finally hitting them all at once.

Warning, plenty of spoilers ahead: {Spoiler}It went from a good standard horror/psychological thriller to f***ing amazing with that ending. There are literally zero endings I've seen that I love as much as that ending. Just epic. The acting wasn't brilliant as someone stated earlier but the story was well woven enough that I bought into their pain as human beings and Mrs. Carmody is one of the best non-over the top villains I've ever seen - I cheered so loudly when she was killed (which I guess is a bit disturbing). I really don't see the hole in logic either, they thought no-one was ever gonna save them. They weren't sure how much of the world was suffering from this disaster, it could have been the whole planet for all they knew. It had been days, they were emotionally traumatised and once they ran out of petrol they thought it had come down to either being killed by the gun (i.e. cleanly) or killed by the monsters (i.e. messily). It's one of the rare occassions where I've enjoyed a film more than the book. For those that don't know, the book ends with them just driving off into the distance not knowing if they'll ever be saved or not. Plus David sleeps with Amanda in the book if I remember correctly which didn't sit well with me because neither of them had come across as the type of people who would cheat (even in a life or death situation) up until that point of the book.

Fun fact: Juan Pareja, who played Morales in The Walking Dead, also plays a character named 'Morales' in The Mist. That would be amazing if Pareja sold himself on that fact. "Look, if you've got a character named Morales, I'm your man. I know Morales inside and out. I am Morales." Add me to the crowd that enjoyed The Mist.

I hated the Christian preacher woman and was incredibly happy when they killed her off. It was a good idea for a movie and ending, but terribly terribly executed (especially for a King story). I expect better from Darabont as The Green Mile and Shawshank are two of my favorites. I would say it was a good effort but it needed a lot better casting/acting and writing.

Thought it was an excellant movie and I LOVED the ending.
Had some really creepy moments too and chalk me up as another who cheered when the christian preacher lady got killed.
