Just got back from the Warzone Wrestling "Warzone 14" card in Berwick, Victoria where NWA champion Adam Pearce and Colt Cabana had their 7th match in the "7 levels of hell" series. The 7th match was a steel cage match, but earlier in the week the board members of the NWA unsanctioned this match, meaning it could still happen but the NWA title would not be on the line.
Colt and Pearce had a great match, which capped off a great card all around and is worth watching if you get the opportunity. The match was brutal and bloody and had everyone on the edge of their seats. The finish was Colt and Pearce climbing the cage, Colt hip tossed Pearce to the mat, Colt climbed to the top and hit a superfly splash from the top of the cage before locking in the "Billy Goats Curse" forcing Adam Pearce to tap out.
As the crowd celebrated, Pearce was handed back his NWA title before grabbing the microphone. Pearce thanked the fans and thanked Colt. Pearce talked about how the NWA unsanctioned the match before they came to Australia and felt that it was not right and so Pearce gave Colt the belt and declared him the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Colt took the microphone and talked about how there is a lot of pride and prestige that comes with the heavyweight title and the pro wrestlers of the past that have held the title and that if he were to hold this title he would represent the future of pro wrestling. But the NWA and their title represent the past and the board of members who are too stupid to realise Colt is the future, and if they're too stupid to realise that then he doesn't want to be their champion.
Colt accepts that he won the "7 levels of hell", that he won the feud, that he beat Adam Pearce but does not accept the World title. He handed the belt back to Pearce.
Pearce said that since Colt doesn't accept the belt, he doesn't accept the belt either. Pearce went on to say that when the NWA unsanctioned their match, they robbed Colt, the fans and themselves of one of the finest NWA champions that ever lived. Pearce dropped the belt and left the ring.

That's pretty awesome. Who knows what the hell is going on with the NWA at the moment?

It seems like every time I hear something about the NWA title, it's being vacated.

You know what looks terrible? When two guys who kicked the crap out of each other all over the planet decide, 'Eh, I don't even want this title'

That idiot down in Houston managed to take the one thing the NWA had going for it and destroy it in spectacular fashion.
Congrats Tharpe, you spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on legal fees to somehow win ownership of the NWA on a case concerning insurance policies and then kicked out everyone keeping the brand afloat and told them to f*** off. You sir are a shining example of what makes indie wrestling scuzzy.

Yeah, personally I would have Colt Cabana as my NWA World Heavyweight Champion for a very long time to come, just based on how over he is and what a mega star he is on the independent level. He obviously does a lot of travel, so having him go from place to place with the title would be perfect. But no, I guess that's just dumb.
And wasn't the Scrap Daddy retiring anyway, why would they not have the match for the title, are they going to have him retire with the belt or something, to vacate the thing again.

Pearce has gone to Facebook, basically thanking everyone (including the past and current NWA bosses) and reaffirming his statement that if he couldn't beat Colt he was done. He didn't outright say he was done with wrestling, but did say that he may never step into an NWA ring again. He called his times as champion the proudest of his career, reiterated his love of wrestling and the NWA, and stated his hope that the next man to hold the championship would feel the same way about it.
This caught me off guard. I thought the logical ending was Colt wins the series and the belt, Pearce rides off into the sunset, and the NWA goes forward with a top indie guy who travels the world as champion. Instead, we've had NWA Hollywood, the group with the biggest buzz around it, dropped from the alliance, and two guys dropping the belt and walking away.
I imagine there will be a tournament and some random guy will win the belt.
Since the change in ownership, the promoter of the NWA Legends Fanfest events that I have attended has been told to stop using the NWA name, even though the event has attracted fans from all over the world and he has used the NWA champion on the live cards.

That's insane. The NWA Legends Fanfest and NWA Hollywood were the only bright spots in regards to the NWA brand.

Why is it that every time the NWA, or whatever's remaining of it, gets close to relevance once more, it's borked?
ECW (which wasn't their fault, entirely), TNA and now this?
Honest question, I wonder what their ideal situation is. They had national coverage with TNA, though their titles were monopolized somewhat, they were aided by the association, or at least, the name wasn't allowed die, and was actually relevant, and it could've been capitalized on regionally.

Maybe someone gave the "businessman" in charge of the NWA some good money to win the belt.

Can't we just sell the NWA to McMahon, shut it down forever, then bring all the talent to the WWE so they can line up and job to Ryback?
