Yes, I know it's Banjo talking about the transgendered again, but this is a bit different. Today is the official Transgender Day of Remembrance, which is a day set aside as a tribute to all the transgendered people killed due to hatred and prejudice. Now, in general I'm against killing anyone, but it's important to set aside a day to recognize the difficulties that the transgendered have to face for their lifestyle, which does include being killed simply for being who they are. Maybe you don't agree with the idea of being transgendered or maybe you don't think they should have a day of remembrance, but no one deserves to be killed or hated just for living their lives the way they feel is necessary. You don't have to do anything special for today if you don't want, but just try to keep in mind that every group of individuals in these types of situations have their share of prejudice and hatred, and they don't deserve it. They're not hurting anybody else in then way the live their lives. So don't kill transgendered people, they're all too sexy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgender_Day_of_Remembrance

As someone who finally admitted their transgender feelings this year, I fully support this.
No one deserves to be killed or mistreated for something as trivial as how they feel about their gender. It's not right.

I didn't know this was a day. Still nobody deserves to be hurt or killed and even if you dint agree or get transgendered folk, who cares let them be. It's not harming you.

There's a show on BBC3 tonight called Transsexual Teen, Beauty Queen. Synopsis: {Spoiler}Jackie Green used to be called Jack, but all her life she’s known that she was really a girl. Being born in the wrong body was just another birth defect. “Like a mole,” as she puts it. At 16, Jackie became the world’s youngest female transsexual. She’s now 18 and on a mission to become Miss England. When we meet her, she’s a feisty, confident teenager with a like-it-or-lump-it attitude to how people view her. But as we follow her journey from her first beauty pageant boot camp to trying to wow the Miss England judges (some of whom, it must be said, look and act like they’ve walked out of a beauty pageant book of cliches), we see how fragile she actually is. There have been examples of emotional and physical bullying, actual attacks, depression and suicide attempts. It’s a thought-provoking documentary and, whatever your views on beauty pageants, there’s no denying that Jackie’s participation in both the contest and this programme will help educate viewers about what it means to be transgender. www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-previews/transsexual-teen-beauty-queen-thought-provoking-1445803

That would be like trying enter a cat at the Westminster dog show. Edit: I don't want to come off as an asshole and I completely support gay rights and the whole LGBT lifestyle.

It's sad that a day like this is even needed.
People are people, as long as you're not hurting anyone, your life is your life and you should be able to live it as the person you are inside.

Now this is comparing apples to oranges, but if I were to throw a Corvette engine into let's say a mustang my car is still a mustang. Just because I changed out the engine doesn't mean I now have a Corvette. I wouldn't be able to enter my mustang into Corvette specific car shows just because I swapped one crucial element for another. This is more of an argument about what truly defines a persons sex. I'm just puzzled about what makes a person a man or a woman.

Honestly, from that argument, it doesn't sound like you do support LGBT rights. You might support gay rights, but LGBT goes beyond that. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* are all included. In your defence, there are people IN the LGBT community who don't get that idea. The abominable Dan Savage is painted as an LGBT hero, when he's made far worse statements against the Trans* and Bi Communities. But I have to say, it's hard to understand why you say you're a supporter of Trans* individuals if you feel it's right for them to be excluded, and to deny their gender identities. The best thing you can do to support people who are Trans* is simply to accept them as the gender that they identify with, rather than comparing their identity to the difference between cats and dogs.

What makes a person isnt their private parts, but how they feel inside.
If this person in the show feels that he was a she, and has even gone as far as to have GR surgery, then that is about as far as you can go to make yourself happier about yourself.
After that it's just down to the acceptance of others and, while I dont agree with setting aside a day to remember death, feeling that it's better to celebrate life and highlight that, I fully accept that Trans people have to have, and deserve the chance to have, the same personal choice to change their gender than I did to be gay.
Granted, I'm not hugely a fan of lumping Trans people in with LGB people, as changing your sexuality makes you one of the others, or indeed straight. I think it's silly to remain segregated once you've made the choice to live as the other sex. Transvestites are where I get a little more confused as I just dont get their whole deal. I respect it and accept it, but I just dont get it.

Are you implying it gives her an unfair advantage or something? Otherwise, I have no idea why it'd matter. Unless there was a rule against plastic surgery in general or something, I cannot think of anything that would make it matter one way or another.

I would be opposed if all the furniture inside was still blue. I just have to pose a question for everyone in this thread. Lets just assume you're 100% heterosexual and have never been attracted to someone of your same sex, if you happened to meet someone that was a postop tranny that is now the sex that you're attracted to would you consider dating them? Personally I couldn't just for the sheer fact that she would still be a dude to me. I say this as a guy who is all about equal rights but I couldn't do it. Does this make me a bad person?

As kids we fantasized about being a hero or a princess or whatever , its just fantasies they need to realize and theyre not hurting anyone really , life is too short to not realize it the way you want.

Serious question here: How many Transgendered people do you actually know IRL? The reason why I ask is I have a good friend that is a post-op MTF transgender. I have known her as both a male and a female. I do not "see" her as make anymore. She self-identifies as female, even if biologically she is not. To claim that she is less of a woman or not a woman at all seems....arrogant at best and ignorant at worst. I'm not saying you're either, nor am I claiming you're a bad person; I AM saying that it all boils down to self-identity. Transgendered people are brave enough to change themselves to be what they see themselves as, and really....isn't that what we ALL should do?

I agree in a fully civilized world we wouldn't need a day like this, I think it's really f***ed up that people get killed over wanting to be another gender or their sexuality.
