I wouldn't be shocked if CM Punk vs Dolph Ziggler didn't have a good rating. Either that or fans turned away when Kane wasn't put in the match.

The good news: This is the first time in 5 weeks that Raw has gotten a 3 rating.
The 'meh' news: The first Raw of last year also got a 3.1 rating.
The bad news: The rating dropped once again as the show went on.

And the Main event involved Cena ,not Punk.So i guess the problem are not the man eventers itself At least it's up,thats a good thing, probaly because of the IT BEGINS

Interesting that the second hour lost viewers, seeing as it had Punk/Ziggler, Jericho's return and the elimination match. Should be an interesting breakdown.

So, umm... Can we stop blaming Punk for the ratings drop now?

6 years ago this time they were getting 4.5's... That was mainly due to Lita accidentally letting the dogs out on national TV though.

6 years ago this time they were getting 4.5's... That was mainly due to Lita accidentally letting the dogs out on national TV though. That...and it was also because Edge won the WWE title from Cena who held it for a complete year of boring and people booing him. Edge was also incredibly hated, he'd gone from squashing fan favorite Matt Hardy, corrupting fan favorite Lita, and beating the crap out of Ric Flair to winning the title. They had ratings up for the entirety of Edge's first reign and sold out house shows with people booing the crap out of Edge and cheering Cena.

Also note that they were against Stanford/OKST on Monday. It was still a good rating regardless. Next week may be a test though, as you're dealing with the national title game.

The Fiesta Bowl game with Stanford vs. Oklahoma State that went head-to-head did a monster rating with 13.86 million viewers. This coming Monday's Alabama vs. LSU game is expected to beat that by a significant margin so it won't be until 1/16 when Raw will start to get the usual January football ratings bounceback.

I think there might be something to the theory that fans (especially younger fans) hang in as long as they can and fall asleep because it's so late on the east coast. Ya, it's just one time zone, but it's the most populated time zone.
It's a much more extreme/later example, but the ratings for the late night shows/SNL, drop off a cliff as the show goes on every week. Saturday Night's Main event use to run its big match first for this reason, and then there'd be Nicholai Volcoff v. Koko B. Ware to close out the show.

There might be some credence to that theory but I don't know. When I was a kid I always stayed up and watched all of RAW, and so did all of my friends. I think I fell asleep during RAW once, and I was really sick. Then again, I've fallen asleep during RAW quite a few times in recent years. Maybe the kids during the Attitude era were able to do it because we were actually excited to see what happened at the end...

That's rather shitty for a hyped-up beginning-of-the-year RAW with a WWE title match and a mystery angle that'd been promoted for over a month.
Actually, the fact that we can be praising a 3.1 rating as a good thing (as opposed to an average or slightly below average rating for a typical, gimickless RAW) is rather sad in of itself.

Just like TNA, the WWE has a build in audience. It can either stay the same, or it will drop a point or 2 week to week. People who aren't fans aren't just going to magically tune in because Punk vs. Ziggler is a main event for the title. Nothing, nobody is a draw anymore. They simply watch the WWE because it's the WWE.
Nexus didn't draw, Cena as champ/not champ won't draw, Punk as champ didn't draw, adding Smackdown to Raw didn't draw, McMahon giving away free money on TV didn't draw. Get the picture?
What they should care about is making sure Raw is sold out every week, which it isn't, and why 4 million households watch Raw yet only 60,000 order the PPV.

I agree with pretty much everything.
