From those tweets he had some serious self esteem issues. Ryan Lanza ryan__Lanza @garrettsanzo kill yourself That didn't help. Edit If not him i still stand by my words kid needs help. Agreed. He may not be the killer, but he still REALLY needs help, because his tweets sound perfectly in step with what you'd expect tweets from the killer would.

I usually check Christopher Titus' Facebook for major events like this, and found a very beautiful post there that I have to post here. Light dims. When a child is taken The reason unknown A place of learning and play. Safe from the real world. No more. NewTown Ironic name on this day. If this is the new world If this is the new result If this is the new pain If this is the new hurt If this is the New town We all live in it cant stand So newly we will all stand against The dimming of the light. To the families, we are broken for you. Love.

I really wish we didn't try to learn the shooter's name, or his backstory, or anything; there's a famous video that gets into why it's better to "localize" the news of a shooting, that making it national headlines and screaming about it openly encourages other disturbed individuals to try the same thing and "go out in a blaze of glory/infamy."
We're obviously not going to discuss the contentious issues involved here, but I do wish that in other forums people would cease telling others to stop discussing the major issues involved. If anything, these are the times when conversations (not loud arguments, not stupid insults, a real conversation) about these major issues must take place and be taken seriously.
Even ignoring the overt political stuff involved here, it also opens the door to really start looking deeper into the honest to goodness perils of mental health issues and the way people don't seem to want to deal with them honestly.

At the very least, there needs to be serious talk about putting metal detectors in ALL schools in the country. I think that's a little extreme. Instead of doing that and treating the kids as if they were criminals, we could do something else that I can't really bring up in the thread sadly. I feel lucky that my name is Andrew MacDonald. A lot of people don't bring up their real name on the internet, but mine is so common that it's impossible for something like what the media so irresponsibly did. It is a sad day that people who are so messed up can do such a horrific thing. It's hard to say something that hasn't already been said.

Okay, I've calmed down my anger and rage a bit so I can attempt to discuss this again.
I stand by my argument earlier that there needs to be some sort of Damnatio Memoriae for people like the shooter. Just give them the complete opposite of the infamy they want. Unperson them they same way we unperson the Jerry Sanduskys of the world.
I think overall, though, I'm just tired of things like this happening. It's deadening particularly if you're an empathetic person.

I will say this, the first comedian that posts a joke about today's events has balls of steel. I firmly believe that comedy is the best way to get over tragedy and trying to write jokes about what happened has been very helpful for me today.

Gallows humor is fine with people who understand your humor, but for a mainstream comedian to make jokes THIS early is pretty f***ed up. Keep it in the small circles, not on stage.

So it's getting out that a Ryan Lanza (probably not the same one) liked Mass Effect on Facebook. So all the moral crusader morons on Facebook are flooding their page with yelling about boycotting and banning the game.

I think the other thing we really need to look at is the mental health side of things. This country does have a lot of people with mental disorders (diagnosed or not, and sometimes mis-diagnosed) but we seem to have a lot of trouble treating them. A gun at rest stays at rest until acted upon by an individual, and a gun doesn't care who holds/shoots/harms with it. The focus, IMO, is on the people and not the weapon. Mental health needs to be addressed on a level that cancer is being addressed today.

President is talking now, I have the radio on.
He took a VERY long pause, sounds like he's fighting some tears back; kind of like when he gave the speech following the Arizona shootings a couple of years ago and got to mentioning the young girl who was killed.

Oh come on people focus on helping those poor people that have lost so much, more then we may ever know. Dont put effort on a game or gun laws your a community act like a community.

Yeah, because liking Mass Effect really makes a guy wanna kill his parents and a bunch of kids... Think, people.

It's the one whose FB profile was being shared around earlier.

Are you referring to them releasing the killer's name in general, or just doing it without giving details to seperate him from the other Ryan Lanzas of this world??

The president appears to be emotional, he's wiping his left eye.
Here's more of what he's saying:
"We've endured too many of these tragedies in the past few years. Each time I learn the news I react not as a president but as anybody else would as a parent.
"That was especially true today.
"I know there's not a parent in America that doesn't feel the same overwhelming grief that I do.
"The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10.
"They had their entire lives ahead of them, birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own."
Obama sighed.
"Our hearts are broken today for the parents and grandparents, sisters and brothers of these children and the families of the adults we lost."
