Was just thinking how Sting had stopped bleaching his hair and was letting it grow out a bit months before Hall & Nash even arrived in WCW. Was a gimmick change being planned then and everything just really fell into place when the nWo started or was Sting just tired of bleaching his hair?

crow gimmick wasn't planned until Hall and Nash came in. Sting stopped bleaching his hair in 95 and just did highlights for a bit.

IIRC the longer dark haired look was for a movie, and he kept it.

Think it was around October '95 when he started to lay off the bleaching and letting his hair grow out. By Starrcade it was all brown.
I believe he just wanted to try to change up his look, felt the flat-top was a bit old hat by then. Things just kind of fell into place by the time the Crow gimmick came along.

I was like 10 when he first started doing this...but back then, were people skeptical that it was still the real Sting? With no internet, I'm sure people jumped to that conclusion.

Yeah I remember Sting saying on his TNA DVD that he started to see wrestling was changing and the white meat faces were starting to get booed a bit so he stopped bleaching and grew it out a bit in '95 to kind of fit in with that change.

I read an interview where Sting said it was Hall that suggested the Crow gimmick to him...so it wasn't until the Outsiders were already there.

Not only did the hair change, but he lost a lot of his muscular body mass during that year of no wrestling too.

I always thought he looked like a goof wearing his surfer Sting gear and facepaint with a Kurt Russell haircut. Even as a kid I thought he looked stupid.
