This may seem odd, but its something I was thinking about earlier. Whats the best team you can think of that never got out of the first round of their respective playoffs.
Some examples.
1993/94 Seattle Supersonics. Had the best record in the NBA at 63 - 19. Was seen as a lock to make it to the finals. However their season ended with with a shocking first round upset by the 8th seeded Denver Nuggets.
2003 Kansas City Chiefs. Despite a shaky defense, the Chiefs offense was a juggernaut behinds Priest Holmes, Trent Green, and Tony Gonzalez. They also had Dante Hall setting records with his kick returns. However in their first playoff game, they fell victim to the Colts and Peyton Manning. Giving Manning his first playoff win in a thrilling playoff game that didn't have a single punt.
So there's a couple of examples of what I'm talking about. Like I said, I know its an odd topic, but I was thinking about it, so I thought I'd ask you guys what you think.

The 2005-2006 Detroit Red Wings (58-16-8) had their second best regular season record in franchise history only to lose to the 8th seeded Edmonton Oilers (41-28-13)

Gotta be the Randy Moss Vikings They won a divisional playoff game against the Cardinals, so they don't count. If you're talking the 1998 Vikings that is.

The 2009-10 Washington Capitals losing in 7 games to the Jaroslav Halak Montreal Canadiens.
The 2002-03 Detroit Red Wings getting swept by Jean-Sebastien Giguere Anaheim (and they were the defending champs).
The 2005-06 San Diego Chargers (14-2) losing to the Patriots in the divisional round (their 1st playoffs game of that year)

How about the recent Canucks? They go and dominate the West, making everyone talk about how Canada was finally gonna bring home the cup, and they go right ahead and get destroyed by a #8 Kings team that just squeaked into the playoffs.

They go and dominate the West, making everyone talk about how Canada was finally gonna bring home the cup, and they go right ahead and get destroyed by a #8 Kings team that just squeaked into the playoffs. I wouldn't really count them for some of the reasons. One everyone knew The Kings massively underachieved that season like they were hyped to end San Jose's dominance as the division winners of the Pacific. Second Vancouver barely squeaked into the Presidents trophy, for the most part it was St. Louis and NYR consistently dominating that year. Third lot of people saw Vancouver as choke artists after last years SCF where they lost game seven at home and originally had a 2-0 lead. Fourth everyone in Canada knew this except for Canucks fans. Canadians probably hates the Canucks more than even Maple Leafs or the Canadians which is huge. Canadian hockey fans hates all of Canada teams but their own and Winnipeg since they got a team back and play in the south east division still for some stupid reason.

My pick would have to be the 2007 Dallas Mavericks.

My pick would have to be the 2007 Dallas Mavericks. To be fair, Golden State was the only team in the West that owned them during the regular season.

I'm sure a good case could be made for the Packers last year. But arguably their defense wasn't really playoff caliber to begin with.

the 2002-2003 Detroit Red Wings, defending Stanley Cup champs, swept in the first round by the freaking Mighty Ducks.

I'd go with the 2011 Packers and the 2010 Saints (though they were a wild card). I don't think anyone would've guessed that the 7-9 Seahawks would've been able to beat the defending Super Bowl champs, even with their ridiculous home field advantage, but here we are. I'd go with the 2010 Patriots, too. They had no business going one and done against a Jets team that backed into the playoffs. In Foxborough.

Duke losing to Lehigh earlier this year in the NCAA tournament was a pretty big upset.

Just to name someone different, I would go with the Falcons the last couple of years. They had a good record/decent team both years and got slaughtered in the first round of the playoffs.
