Was Lash Leroux supposed to be a big deal in 2000-2001 WCW? I wasn't a wrestling fan then, but I'm reading a WCW book from then, with wrestler profiles and all that stuff (It's also autographed by Shane Douglas and Torrie Wilson ) There are a number of interesting things in the book, including the description of Lash Leroux, which reads like this. "Were you there when a young Michael Jordan first stepped onto the basketball court? How about the first time Aerosmith ever performed on stage? Well, the feeling you would have had then is the same feeling you get from watching Lash Leroux now. You are seeing the earliest days of an inevitable legend. It seems hard to grasp, but in 15, 20, or 25, or more years from now, people will look at Lash Leroux and see the standard bearer for the sport. Like Sting in the late 80's, Lash is a breakout performer waiting to show the world what he's got. Seems like really high praise. Were they building this guy up as a main eventer for when their main guys retired?

Not really, he was a big deal in the Cruiserweight division, and could possibly have gotten to the Jericho/Rey level of push, but they didn't strap a rocket to him or anything.

he looked like he was going to be a big time player in the cruiserweight division at the end of 99/beginning of 2000 but once Russo and Bischoff rebooted he became Corporal Cajun. He was highly entertaining in that role and probably could've held the tag titles with either General Rection or Lt Loco, but they never pulled the trigger. He really wasn't featured at all in the last few months of WCW after MIA broke up

Glad to see some appreciation of Lash. I was never a huge fan, but I thought he was solid and could have gone further. I doubt he would ever be the "standard", but I could definitely see him in a Jericho role of sorts. But naturally, WCW mishandled him during the later days.
The last I heard, Lash was a youth minister.

WCW could've done quite a bit more with him than they did. He was a good hand in-ring. Sucks that he wasn't more popular.

That is a really weird comparison to make as I don't remember Lash being great in the ring, and I don't recall him ever doing anything with the microphone.

If I remember correctly he did some funny cartoons for PWI. Pretty good artists. Never saw him wrestle.

I liked Lash, I thought he had a solid upper mid-card career in his future, but MIA was a career ruiner.

I don't remember ever thinking he was going to be the next megastar. However, he could've been great for the cruiser weight division. I still wish he would've been called up to WWF. He did come over after the purchase of WCW.

At one point he was my favorite wrestler. I heard rumors that he was going to win the cruiserweight and become the top cruiserweight in WCW. However, he started to get fat and the WCW management told him to lose weight. He failed at losing weight and starting to get even more fat. He then got punished and turned into Col. Cajun. However, MIA was over and he did win the WCW tag team title for a few minutes.

Decent Midcarder and was over. Probably was never going to the main events but he was okay.

I actually liked Lash but I think it's pretty clear that the person in that quote is being sarcastic.

I liked Lash, but WCW would say things like that about young guys all the time that they never actually backed up in booking, nor did they ever have any real intention to. Oh, Chris Benoit is the future of the business, you say? Vampiro will be world champ within a year? Kidman is a future legend? Then why the hell are they being jobbed out to Hogan/Hall/Nash/Flair/Sid and sent back down to flounder in the mid-card?

Lash was cool. His finisher was great, I'd like to see it come back.
