I wanted to do a thread maybe once a week where everyone shares their views on what would be that one definitive match in a wrestlers career. The one match that you'd pick to show to someone to showcase what he's all about. I would have done this in the WWE section, but I'll probably do stars outside of the E eventually.
So, definitive match...Steve Austin. Not just as Stone Cold, but in WCW and beyond. If you had to pick one Steve Austin match to showcase to a non-fan, which match would it be?

A couple that come to mind.
vs. Bret Hart at WM 13 vs. The Rock at WM 19

Both good choices. My choice is Stone Cold vs HBK with Special Enforcer Mike Tyson at Mania 14.
It may not have been his greatest match technical wise with HBK being injured, but the aura surrounding the match was just huge. It also helped lead to the renaissance in the WWF leading into Austin vs McMahon and the Attitude Era at it's best.

When I think of Stone Cold in a match, I think of Austin vs. Rock from 'Mania 17. Mind you when someone says wrestling match that's also the first match I think of. Technically it may not have been the best match of all-time, but to me it is what defines wrestling.

Stone Cold vs Bret Hart at WM 13 or the technical showcase that was Stone Cold vs Chris Benoit on Raw.

For me its Bret at 13, or Jake at KOTR '96

It's Bret from WM 13 and the rest aren't all that close. The Jake match was more known for the post match interview, while the Rock WM 17 match has the goofy heel turn. WM 19 wasn't even a particularly good match and was certainly more of a Rock feature than anything Austin. Injuries curtained the WM 14 HBK match.

What about WM 15? no heel turn, McMahon invovled which is a apart of the Austin character and it's a solid matchup with the Rock.

I think it has to be the match with Bret Hart at mania. It cemented the Texas Rattlesnake as the anti-hero who would rather die than quit. Steve Austin almost fighting out of the Sharpshooter, and later passing out in it is one of those great wrestling moments that will always be remembered.

vs Renegade on WCW Saturday Night in 95 This. This is the one I always think of too... Seriously I have to go for the classic match with Bret at Wrestlemania 13. The Wrestlemania X7 match with the Rock might have been my pick but for the crappy heel turn and alliance with McMahon at the end. If you want the definitive example of Austin's work, you can't choose a match where he aligns himself with Vince McMahon, his greatest foe!

If you want a match that ISN'T WrestleMania 13, his match with Bret at Survivor Series 1996 (usually referred to as "Bret's comeback" match) was stellar. Bret picked him as his opponent for a reason (his saying he "wanted to face the best wrestler currently in the WWF: 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin" was a shoot), and Steve did not disappoint. It was a straight-up wrestling match; people wondered if possible ring rust would do Bret in.
Bret escaped with the win by the WM VIII finish (Steve, on his " 'Cause Stone Cold Said So" tape said "Oh, there's a fluke!"), and Steve knew he wasn't going to go anywhere unless he gets his revenge.
Hence the next few months was Steve hounding the Hitman and making things interesting for the company.

The match with Bret at WM 13 is his career defining match, as well as one of the greatest images in wrestling ever, so definitely that.

his match with Bret, and honorable mention to his 2 Wrestlemania matches with The Rock and every time Vince let Steve kick the crap out of him.

No love for his WCW feud with Ricky Steamboat? This profanity-laced promo (pre-Stone Cold) cracked me up. youtu.be/I1ofD2jyBcA

There are a lot of great Steve Austin matches but for me it has to be my all time favourite match in general - Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart from Wrestlemania 13!

I have to go with my favorite Stone Cold match ever, Austin vs Dude Love at Over The Edge 98. The one at Unforgiven that year was good too.
