In 2012. www.multimediamouth.com/2012/12/30/top-ten-movies-that-should-have-gone-direct-to-dvd/I normally don't do something like this but was hoping to get some opinions. Writing is the best writing practice. So I decided to try an end of year list slightly different from others. Movies that with either some reshuffling or just plain direct to DVD drops could have had a better run going straight to video. Limited to films garnering at least 500 theaters in their run. I tried one of these last year and even botched the title, so this is hopefully better. Also, Stick Figure Cartoons. What do you think? The list if you don't want to click: {Spoiler} 10. Red Dawn 9. One For the Money 8. The Raven 7. Ghost Rider 2 6. Gone 5. Atlas Shrugged: Part II 4. Silent House 3. Fun Size 2. A Thousand Words 1. Oogieloves

I looked at this list and saw "Atlas Shrugged: Part II" and thought it would be some kind of goofy pseudo-parody, like Hamlet 2. I was very very sad when I looked it up and discovered what it really was.

Should have gone straight to a video on demand service (like itunes). Don't waste valuable discs on them

i fell like paranormal 4 should of been on this list While it would work fine with the dark lights of a house with the volume up, I didn't include it due to the profit it made. PA4 only cost $5 million to make and ended up accumulating over $140 million worldwide. Hard to argue it would've done better going straight to video.

Piranha 3DD should be there If they had kept original plans, I'm sure it would have been. They hauled back massively on the theatrical release (probably after screenings) and the movie was only seen in 86 theaters before being rushed to DVD.

If Hemsworth didn't blow-up no way Red Dawn gets a theatrical release, not any bigger than WWE flicks get so walmart will sell them anyway.
If Atlas Shrugged II goesn't go to theatres you know it would be called part of the liberal media conspiracy.
Don't remember any Silent House ads. Was it in very wide release?
They obviously knew what they had in A Thousand Words since it was shelved so long. Why suddenly release in theatres now? It isn't like Eddie had gotten any of his old momentum back.

Its opening weekend release was in 2124 theaters. Two weeks later, that cut slightly over half to 1202. Next week it was 325 and down, down, down from there.

Which probably has a lot to do with the movie's bats*** ridiculous ending. In fact, "Silent House" is one of only two 2012 theatrical releases to receive a CinemaScore grade of F (the other being "The Devil Inside"), and I put the entire blame on the movie's final 30 minutes. It's a tight and interesting thriller that gets completely turned on its head and serves to only upset the audience rather than surprise or blow them away.

Silent House's twist is bad, The Devil Inside's ending is horrible.
Although, part of me would blame Silent House's bad box office on The Devil Inside. TDI was the first horror movie of the year, if not one of the first movies of 2012 in general. It was cheap to make and the company pumped more than double the budget into advertising because they knew found footage films (at the time) sold well...and then, wow. People went to see it and were ticked.
After that, I seriously think every horror movie for the next six months was under the "Uh...are you sure?" worry that led to people being hesitant to go out for a horror film. Combine that with horrible word of mouth (because of the twist, most likely) and Silent House sunk like a rock.

Didn't the first part of Atlas Shrugged horribly bomb? Know a lot of people are very devoted to the book, but - not to get political or anything, just saying - going in the face of fiscal sense to finish the story seems to kind of run against part of the point.

Funny story on Atlas Shrugged 2. I was watching The Daily Show for the first time in like 5 years when I saw the first commercial for "Atlas Shrugged: Part II" and all I thought was "They do parody commercials like SNL now? That's kinda funny! "
Then I saw the same commercial like 3 days later on another channel and realized it was actually real. I was looking for The Asylum logo, but it never came up.
I'm still shocked to know that this was supposed to be a legit movie.

It still blows my mind that they can't make a good film adaptation of "Atlas Shrugged". It's one of the best books I've ever read and I'm baffled that it took them 50 years to make a movie. Hopefully some time in the next 50 years, somebody gets their hands on it and does right by it.
