Did "The Apex Predator" stick? Justin Roberts always announces him as "The Apex Predator" on Raw/PPV. Not so sure about Lilian though. Oh wow, I've never heard this. "The Red Devil" Undertaker had this briefly in 2002. I didn't mind Red Devil, because they usually combined it with the nickname that DID stick, giving us "Big Evil, Red Devil" I don't recall Red Devil., I do recall Booger Red, possibly the worst nickname of all time.

there are a lot of terrible ones in this thread but that one always stuck out as particularly awful. did WWE just not see the inherent racism of comparing a large black man to a gorilla? It was 'Self-Proclaimed Silverback', so it was OK, see? If Mark Henry tells you that he wants that as his nickname, you let him have it. Do you want to be the one to say "no" to Mark Henry?

As usual, "Booger Red" came about because of Jim Ross's love of College Football, and there was a well known player in the 60s that they called "Booger Red". Doing some internet searching reveals that his real name was Tommy Nobis. It was probably a good thing that the nickname never caught on, because another "Booger Red", Patrick Kelly, was arrested in 2008 for pimping out underage girls that he'd had working as prostitutes.

I personally liked all of Striker's ultra-nerdy nicknames and references. I may be in the extreme minority, but I thought he was a fun, different sort of announcer for the big, polished, seamless circus of WWE. He was very much a child of the "IWC Era" of fandom, and it was fun to hear a guy who was watching and thinking about the show with the sort of dorky, hyper-referential eye of a comic book/sci-fi fan furiously debating continuity and shipping into the wee hours on Reddit. I can see why that rubbed so many people the wrong way, who always see a maintenance of the "real sports" veneer as the highest attainment for a wrestling program, but I think that mentality doesn't really jibe with the way people actually consume/engage with entertainment in this day and age. "I'm markin' out, bro!!" may not have been the sort of thing a football announcer would scream, but pro wrestling in 2013 isn't the sort of thing a person thirsty for real combat sports would ever turn on. Why not foster talent who speak in the language of the target audience, of the modern fandom? But, this is company that doesn't promote CM Punk doing stuff like Talking Dead and The Nerdist (i.e. mainstream exposure that their audience would actually care about, as opposed to guest shots on Disney shows), so I can't be surprised. I agree wholeheartedly with this post.

I don't really feel like making a judgment on it either way, but it's pretty obvious that Vince (and probably HHH, too) resents that most of his adult fanbase THESE DAYS are of the geek persuasion.

That could well be true. But if they realised it was a good thing and harnessed it they could be on to a winner. As we all know, geeks rule the world these days.

This name is one of the few things in life that provide me with joy through the process of ragging on it. To actively use this moniker, one should also have to get their torso augmented with massive neon sign that reads 'GOBS***E' in blinkering lights.

Hardy also tried getting over "the scar will become a symbol" as his catchphrase at the time. it's like he wanted his gimmick to be a terrible 90s Image Comics character.

"The Legend Thriller" Jeff Hardy.
It made the slightest iota of sense during the build to the '08 Rumble between Orton and Hardy, but afterwards having JR refer to him by a nickname that didn't make much sense on its own just felt odd and, if memory serves me correct, was gone once JR and Hardy were on different shows.

Bionic Redneck didn't stick around too long... I actually liked Bionic Redneck. It was a clever little play on the Steve Austin name. I liked it too. Was also the fact that Austin had been 'rebuilt' (neck surgery) before returning.

Miz as "The Cleveland Screamer"
It's a dumb name standalone, made worse by what it's referencing. =P

Not a nickname per se, but I recall that time that it seemed that "Cena's Spoilin' For a Fight" seemed to be a catchphrase they shoehorned in, mainly because they were using the AC/DC song for Survivor Series that year
