Which movies in your opinion were you surprised to make it to theaters? Which theatrical releases do you think were better suited for straight-to-video?
In my opinion, I would go with the 1998 film "Caught Up." Here's the trailer below:
Also, the 2007 movie "Redline." (SHUDDER)
There are others, but I can't think of any right now.

Peter Pan's Return To Neverland and The Jungle Book 2. Yes, this was during the dark period of Eisner's reign.

Wrongfully Accused. I love Leslie Nielsen (heck, im probably the only person who legit enjoyed Spy Hard) but around this time he was putting out some real bombs (see also Mr Magoo, though he did look like he was having fun with the role to be fair).

Well, to be fair, I think the ones like Legendary and everything after that were supposed to be released on DVD but they also had the special limited theatrical run that lasts only a week or so and then comes out on DVD later that month. However, the only ones that had nationwide/worldwide releases in theaters were See No Evil, The Marine, The Condemned and 12 Rounds. I actually did see 12 Rounds at the theater and it wasn't a waste of my money. However, one could look at whether or not they deserved a theatrical run. I know that The Day was released in theaters but only in about a limited number of them. And it was released on DVD/Blu-Ray three months later. As for other films that made it to theaters but probably shouldn't have was Bebe's Kids. Don't get me wrong, I love that movie. I hold nostalgic value over it, but the animation wasn't all that great and I kind of wonder how it made it to theaters. I was actually surprised that "DOA: Dead or Alive" was in theaters, though in a limited number of them. However, that movie does have an audience and somewhat of a cult following. It actually played in my area, but I kind of wondered what it would have been like to see it in theaters. I actually did like that movie, by the way.

I hold nostalgic value over it, but the animation wasn't all that great and I kind of wonder how it made it to theaters. You know why? Cause of those damn Bebe Kids. I was really surprised that Last Ounce of Courage got a wide theatrical release, with saturation advertising on cable and everything else. That kind of movie typically goes straight to certain bookstores.

Do you think the casting of Halle Berry was a factor in that movie getting greenlit?

Redline needed a theatrical release just so the world could be exposed to the drop-dead sexiness of Nadia Bjorlin. Did the movie suck? Absolutely. But I sat there like a monkey waiting for a cupcake and watched it just for her.

I believe some of their movies had a very limited theatrical release since not everyone will sell straight-to-video movies.

The WWE films have to have a limited release, even if it's just one theater, to adhere to their contracts with Wal*Mart and Best Buy to stock them exclusively.

Hell on Earth and Bloodline from the Hellraiser franchise. At the other end of the spectrum, Inferno deserved a theatrical release in my opinion.

I believe some of their movies had a very limited theatrical release since not everyone will sell straight-to-video movies. They do now. But back when they began making them (The Marine) the first 2 or 3 were full mainstream releases - they subsequently bombed, hence the limited release/STV route they take now. But of course they didn't do this due to box office poison, they did this to "alter the business model to take advantage of modernized media distribution" or some such corporate clap-trap.

Were any of Austin's films (besides condemned, longest yard, and expendables) ever theatrically released? I think Damage may have gotten a limited run (i seem to remember seeing ads for it) but thats about it.

I think Damage may have gotten a limited run (i seem to remember seeing ads for it) but thats about it. According to IMDB, "Damage" was given a theatrical release but was released overseas before being released out here. I think "Hunt To Kill" was given a theatrical release in Canada but was a DVD release in other parts of the world. I think "The Stranger," "Tactical Force" and "Recoil" were all STV.

Piranha 3DD It has STD all over it Edited for my amusement. As for other films that made it to theaters but probably shouldn't have was Bebe's Kids. Don't get me wrong, I love that movie. I hold nostalgic value over it, but the animation wasn't all that great and I kind of wonder how it made it to theaters. The movie was in pre-production as a live-action film when Robin Harris died. They changed it to an animated movie and kept working on it as a tribute to him and his comedy.

But I sat there like a monkey waiting for a cupcake and watched it just for her. That woman is hot, no questions asked. However, the only big names (Or close to it) in that movie were Eddie Griffin and Tim Matheson. I remember it being advertised on MySpace and other internet sites.
