Can anybody explain to me what the deal was both kayfabe wise and booking wise?
Throughout all of 1997 and the earlier parts of 1998, The Giant was a face and wasn't in the nWo. Then in the Spring of 1998, he turns heel and joins the nWo again.
Did he really need a heel run? Kayfabe wise, what was his reason?

Kayfabe wise, he joined nWo Hollywood to oppose his hated rival, Kevin Nash.

Even then in WCW, Paul Wight knew he had to keep up with Kane in career number of face/heel turns.

Kayfabe wise, he joined nWo Hollywood to oppose his hated rival, Kevin Nash. that rivalry was REALLY dated at that point though they just needed some credible guys in the NWO Hollywood I guess, cause Stevie Ray, Vincent, Hennig, bodyguard Rude & Norton didn't cut the mustard, brother!
