So after having a long conversation with my dad about packing up all my old things and storing them away. He said " If you continue to hold onto and display everything from your childhood, they cease being from your childhood and start to become who you are now" And I have to admit he does have a point. I see these threads pop up like "what have you found on old VHS tapes" and I think to myself. "I've found nothing because they were never lost" I hear people talk passionately about old favorite movies or TV shows and I find myself saying " yeah, I watched that last week" So I feel I've reached a point where I've gotten so into nostalgia that it's not nostalgic anymore. For example. I started off today by playing Dig Dug 2 on NES, while watching Inspector gadget. The first movies I watched in 2013 were Back to the Future and Big. I skip over shows like Big Bang Theory and How I met your Mother to watch reruns of Friends and Boy Meets World that I've seen hundreds of times. So has anyone experienced anything like this?

It's just another version of "different people like different things".
You can only like what you like.

Sometimes the things that are familiar are the most comforting and enjoyable. I really don't see too much wrong with that. If you live exclusively in the past then I can see it being a problem but overall it shouldn't be that much of an issue.
I still watch old shows but that's because I enjoy them a lot and I enjoy them a lot more than many of today's shows. Some of them I have seen mutliple times but I don't care - I wouldn't watch them if I didn't like them. If I don't want to watch the newest comedy but want to watch another rerun of I Love Lucy then that's my business.

I wholeheartedly agree with the first two replies, and I'm a VERY nostalgic person myself.
