This thread begins and ends with Michelle McCool. They were determined to get her over for years. I still can't recall a talent who was pushed as long despite not getting any reaction from the crowd. Folks complain about AJ's push, but at least there was a fairly quick return on their investment with her getting over the crowd. With McCool, I think she didn't really start to get any reaction until the Piggy James angle, once again, years into her super push. Taking nothing away from what she was as a performer, but she wasn't the only woman in that locker room who was talented and busted their butt.

Heel Edge as the Ultimate Opportunist. It was like they kept having Edge lose the title just to come up with more crazy and inventive ways for him to "shock the world" by winning it back in "controversial" fashion. That stuff ranks among the most entertaining acts in recent WWE, imo. Especially at Survivor Series 2008 that shit rocked hard.

I loved it at Survivor Series 2008 for two reasons - first, because of the beard. Second, because it meant that that match was over. Speaking of, Kozlov's Drago gimmick during that time period.

Speaking of, Kozlov's Drago gimmick during that time period. Again, another example of someone who become more bearable once WWE got a new toy to play with. I mean, his matches weren't much better, but I enjoyed the Ruthless Roundtable thing with Regal and Big Zeke in ECW, as well as the straight man act he had with Santino.

Heel Del Rio. Why isn't he over? Is he not holding the armbar long enough after the bell!? Feed him Kofi again!
Also McCool, damn McCool.

Would Jack Swagger count? I don't think he was very over when he won the World Heavyweight Championship, and his poor title reign certainly didn't help. I disagree with Swagger. He was decently over when he won the title. In fact, he actually got lots of cheers for ending Chris Jericho's title run that night. However, the fact that they stripped his personality from him after he cashed in the briefcase and became a Jeri-clone was not good. Then, there was that soul-crushingly bad Big Show feud where they didn't want to give him a pinfall victory on PPV after Show emasculates him in the buildup. Remember the promo where Big Show destroys all of Jack Swagger's possessions and Swagger looks like a total bitch? Then, after he loses the title to Rey, he falls to the exact same position he was before and couldn't even get on Summerslam that year. How is anyone going to stay as a credible main event threat with that booking?

I'd say from late 2009-early 2011 it was Miz. They almost literally strapped a rocket to his ass with the way he was pushed and the accolades they gave him.

Who is A, hated by most casual US fans, and B, still an IWC god.

Who is A, hated by most casual US fans, and B, still an IWC god. Dude comes out to absolute silence most of the time. He'll get cheap heat for his "evil foreigner" act and then once the bell rings it's back to indifference.

Zeke post Corre pre injury. they tried so hard to make him the next big thing, but never could.
Also Cesaro gets decent boos for only debuting less then a year ago. WWE is trying to get him over as they and the IWC likes him, which is rare

This starts and ends with Sheamus. The conventional way of thinking, is that an 18 seconds win at WM would get him HUGE over. It failed. The following 2 months where he as booed, they kept him off RAW (for the most part), and piped in cheers for him; at the same time, they were doing the opposite to DB, and editing the "YES" chants out. To this day they still shove that goofy gimmick down our throats, and his jokes bomb every time. I think it would've worked if it were ANYONE other than Daniel Bryan. They were pissed that Bryan was "buried" and took it out on Sheamus. If it was someone who wasn't an "IWC favorite" getting squashed in 18 seconds, then Sheamus would've been cheered. More like fans who had spent hundreds of dollars on tickets to travel and see a title match got screwed over. It doesn't matter if the internet loves Daniel Bryan. He was hugely over with casual fans. It was a match many wanted to see. 18 seconds on your biggest PPV of the year, for your second biggest title is laughable. The crowd rightfully went dead and turned on them until Undertaker v Triple H. It was a terrible way to try and elevate Sheamus and it bit them royally in the ass.

"Ruthless Aggression"
They had everyone saying it. I don't even know what it meant. Did WWE imply that previously their wrestlers have ruths and weren't aggressive?

You bathturd. Seriously, though, Lashley was a guy that they wanted over, but the crowd really wasn't into him. I admit to marking for the guy in 2007, but I regret it in hindsight. I could only imagine if they had actually gone with heel Lashley under the guidance of Heyman.

I think with Lashley it wasn't that the crowd wasn't into him, it was that they weren't into him to the degree WWE wanted. it was too much too soon. a wrestler can get over without being a great talker provided he isn't a terrible talker, but Lashley was terrible.

Um, fans didn't come to see Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan, it wasn't the selling point of the show, Rock vs. Cena was. And being there live, the crowd wasn't dead the first hour, in fact, Sheamus got a huge pop for beating Bryan in 18 seconds. I don't even know why this match gets criticized so much. Bryan was a cowardly heel who won the championship while his opponent was lying on the mat, he kept the championship by the skin of his teeth through cheating and such, so its only fitting for his reign to end like that. In a lengthy match, Bryan would pull out all the stops to keep his title, and Sheamus was looking for an oppurtunity to prevent that, anybody else who thought of that would do the same thing. Plus, I thought it was a cool and unique way to start the show with an immediate world title change.
