I actually remember playing this game quite a bit and have to agree. It was too hard and the fact that you couldn't mid-game save killed the enjoyment factor a lot.

My god, this game annoyed the everloving shit out of me. I honestly found Ninja Gaiden to be more balanced.

I loved it. I use to play a few years back on the 80s Video Game site (whatever happened to that site?)

This was a game played often in the Banjo family household and yes, it was a complete bitch. Especially when you would get stung by those fly things and you could only move like slower than the process of fossilization. But it was one of those cool overhead shoot-em up games like Blaster Master and the like thereof.

I remember watching my step dad play this when I was a child.

I remember liking it quite a lot and not being nearly as difficult as is mostly said about it.

Say what you want about this game, but the 8-bit rendition of the Adams Family theme at the title screen was awesome.
(Of course find a Sunsoft game that didn't have an awesome sound track.)

I loved that game as a kid, even though I couldn't get through the first level.

I enjoyed it. I didn't think it was so much hard as incredibly unforgiving. The game world was basically a really long (and I mean LONG) linear path of increasing difficulty. Since you lost weapon power every time you got hit, a brief lapse in concentration could leave you completely unable to kill anything in your current location. Or the location before that. Or the one before that. If you actually wanted to keep playing, you had a long (did I mention the path was long?) walk back to someplace you could survive to grind your weapon back up again.
The times I beat it were basically flawless victories. If I was halfway through or further, and took a bunch of hits and lost all my power, I'd just quit.

That game sucked. The starting over part was just criminal.

I beat the game.
Finally.
In 2011.
