What about when Elmyra was added to Pinky and the Brain? "It's what the network wants. Why bother to complain?"

No mention for Cousin Oliver? A real show-killer if there was one.

If the definition of a "Poochie" is a character that pretty much nobody likes, I'm throwing out Big the Cat. Such a useless character and his voice is just... ugh.

Zombie Mod The f***ing corporates of the FAN forum just wanted to appeal and suck up to the Zombie fad... Agreed. The same with Banjo. They just wanted to suit all the banjo players out there. Which is funny since I've never actually seen him play a banjo.

Inspector Gadget had Corporal Capeman. Ducktales probably had Doofus or was Bubba a likely candidate for being a "Poochie"? I'm not really sure what those could be classified as, but they're certainly in the same category as each other. Capeman and Doofus certainly weren't the sort of forced cool Poochie was. It was more like annoying comic relief in a series that didn't need it. More of a Jar Jar than a Poochie, perhaps. When I think of Poochie, this is the sort of thing that comes to mind...

Going through this thread I think a lot of people are confusing the old TVTrope terms of "The Poochie", "The Scrappy" and "The Wesley". Granted, there is a lot of overlap, but they are distinctive -
- The Scrappy is just a character hated, in general, by its fandom. - The Poochie is a character added to a franchise mid-stream usually with some never before mentioned but suddenly incredibly vital role that's hated by the fans and eventually phased out, the character and his formerly vital role never being mentioned again. - The Wesley is a character hated by the fans, but loved by the writers, creators or other members of the franchise's production so they continually get spotlighted over the fandoms objections.

John Cena I'd actually go for Bobby Lashley. Cena became popular organically and THEN they tried to shove him down everybody elses throat. Bobby Lashley was dull from the start and then WHO LOVES BUBBY!!?!?!

Seven - Married With Children MWC did a great job at poking fun of the character after he left

Seven - Married With Children at least it gave us a funny gag when they got rid of him and the only reference it got was his face on a milk carton.

I'll have to agree that Reggie from American Dad is the biggest poochie example.

DC's opinion of Superman, for a long time, was that Superman is the one who can do everything and save the day. Just for reference, you're taking pre-crisis Superman right? The one who could destroy an entire solar system by sneezing? Pre-Crisis is also the Superman that had trouble fighting three wolves. But looking over the event history of DC, I don't see a greater trend that Superman is the one who saves the day. In his own book, sure. But that could be said for everyone with a book. Most events take a group of individuals to bring about victory. Despite that though, considering Superman's age/place in the mythos, I don't see how he could be 'Poochie'. I suppose if you're Dr. Occult or Slam Bradley you can make a claim about Superman, but other than that?

You have to admit, you know your reimagining is a failure when even a kid wrote to the network and complained about it BEFORE the show even aired. That's just too damn funny. I'll have to agree that Reggie from American Dad is the biggest poochie example. Ehhh, Reginald's harmless. Besides, we got that fight between him and Bullock.

Dawn Summers, whenever she was off screen, people would ask, "Where's Dawn?" Also she was much louder than other characters. I win!
