What's everyone's opinion of the third game in the series?

Definitely underrated. Bosses and stages weren't as memorable as the first two, but it was still a solid game.

The original, SNES version of the game is probably my second favorite of the trilogy, behind DKC2. It had some pretty good music, some of the levels were quite fun, and while the bosses weren't the best (...barrel?), they were still better than the Rita Repulsa bosses from DKC1. My only complaint, to be honest, was the banana bird collecting, just because finishing that made it impossible to save (even if it was 100% at that point).
The GBA remake, surprisingly, was a disappointment. They added an entire new area with new levels and an extra boss, but completely replaced all of the music.

I really enjoyed it, a fine swan song for the SNES.
I got 103%, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't use a strategy guide for some help.

The Simon Says mini game can bite me, but the rest of the game is pretty fun.
It's not as good as DKC2, but no game is.

Whoa, whoa, slow down now, breh...Killer Queen Bee was a beast in the original DKC.

Various thoughts:
- Loved the overworld map (Even though DKC2's overworld map has the better music).
- A lot of people seem to hate Kiddie Kong, which I never really got. He didn't really do anything annoying, he was just a big, plump baby. Maybe they were all bitter that Donkey Kong and Diddy weren't playable, I dunno.
- I liked the bears and their goofy aliterative names.
- The Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64 in an SNES game!

I liked it.
As far as bosses go, I dare say Bleak was the best one of the entire series.

Really, my only issue with the game is that Donkey Kong was yet again left out as a playable character. I liked the idea of shaking things up in 2 with Diddy as the lead. And, I would've liked to see them replace Kiddie with Donkey, to give us a different but familiar mixture. I fully admit it's partially because it was/is the swan song to the series and it didn't feel right to not have DK as playable in a franchise called Donkey Kong Country.
That aside, it is criminally underrated by alot of fans and honestly it's at least on par with the first one, with the second one still being the best in my opinion. I'd argue, depending on my mood, it's the second best although your mileage may vary.

Honestly yeah Donkey in place of Kiddy would have made more sense and it would have brought the series full circle with every two kong variation of DK, Diddy, and Dixie.
Solid game, but visually it didn't to as much for me, especially because there seem to be an early "real is brown" filter that seem to affect a lot of levels making them either too earth tone or orangish.

DKC 2 is much better, but DKC3 is still really good. I think the levels are the best in the series and the music is just as good as it was in DKC2, also it has one of the best overworld maps ever and more goodies when trying to 100% the game. I think everyone's hate on Kiddie Kong is because we were spoiled with Diddy and Dixie in 2. Honestly when I play it I always think "man, would rather have Diddy then this guy".

I think part of why Kiddy is looked down on is just that after DKC2, where both characters were (roughly) the same size, they brought back a character whose hit box was a bit bigger, making some navigation in tight areas rather tough. Plus, his ability to skip on water was kinda... well, situational at best, and useful only once. MAYBE.
Kiddy was basically Donkey without the ground slap.

I think there was two portions of the game where it was needed, and it was always easier just to sacrifice Kiddy and use Dixie's helicopter spin to get those bonus levels.

LOVED it, way better than DKC2. Of course, I'm the one guy on the planet that thinks DKC 2 is the worst in the trilogy.
Loved the levels and how creative they were without being linear and irritating (DKC 2), how the levels didn't have a shoehorned dark theme to them and were just naturally what they were (DKC 2), Kiddy worked well as a pseudo-DK, best music in the series, best "lost world" in the series too. Some of the bosses really sucked (the waterfall boss, the snowman throwing-gallery-esque boss that added a new mechanic to it without telling you), and the final boss battle was a little too convoluted (ESPECIALLY the Lost World boss).
