From this ![](http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/8282/ultimatewarrior2.jpg) to this ![](http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/4765/theultimatewarriorjames.jpg) and what was the approximate time span for the design in the 2nd pic? I know he switched back. Was it because of the LOD? I know they tagged up together when they first came to the WWF and I have read they dropped the Road Warrior name, because the Ultimate Warrior was already there with a warrior name, but they did team up together while the UW had the full face piant ![](http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/5327/45692868.jpg) So what's the story?

The original Warrior died, and that was Kerry Von Erich, or the original Undertaker. Or something.

Apparently they were trying to "humanize" him to make him more appealing to the mainstream. Since he went back to the full makeup look by 1991 i guess it didnt work.

Better question: why didn't Warrior get his facepaint tattooed on?

Less paint. Took less time. Same lack of talent as always.

I loved the first facepaint look, hated when he went back to it but instead used crosses and crosshatching technique to fill it in.
The smaller design was during his world title run, maybe to differentiate him from the midcard version?

That was the first match that really kind of ruined wrestling for me as a kid, in a completely business exposing way. They took that six man tag around the loop, including featuring it on a Saturday Night's Main Event. The problem was, they also aired a version of that six man on an episode of Prime Time Wrestling from a different city than SNME, and those guys did the exact same match every night. Same false tags, same sequence of spots, same finish, everything. Killed the illusion.

Those rumors started when he came back at WM8, looking a bit less toned and (this was the kicker) had shorter hair. BTW, how many people were coming in to answer with "because the original Warrior died"? lol ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I noticed that the alternate Warrior paint was mostly used in promo shots (in magazines, non-action figure merch like books and such)., and not matches. I actually can't recall a single match where he used the alternate paint. I wonder if they did it to make him seem less demonic-looking to casual fans. Maybe the full-paint and intense scowl made him look too villainous.

I noticed in the back of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, when they gave the correspondence reports, that several of the cards read exactly the same with one or two variances on occasion

The same matches from town to town is certainly understandable. Even similar finishes, maybe. But we're talking pre-rehearsed exact same moves level of sameness. Eight year old me was even saying to myself, "these guys can't be bothered to even slightly change the structure of the match for two different television broadcasts?"

Better question: why didn't Warrior get his facepaint tattooed on? He's not retarded.

Just yesterday, my mother in laws boyfriend told me that Warrior died and they brought in a look alike. I laughed so hard and then corrected him.

For some reason, this made me think of the Warrior's Pro Wrestling Illustrated "Press Conference" taken from his actual press conference the night of Wrestlemania VIII. I almost sort of liked (despite my inner child's evolving view of professional wrestling) the few photo shoots that showed Warrior's face (same with Sting), it seemed to show that he was an actual guy rather than this mysterious creature, which was where pro wrestling (and mainstream entertainment) was heading as a whole in the 1990s (which was a pretty bold move, altering his facepaint like that, considering the times). 1995 was MUCH more different from 1990 than 2013 is from 2008, for instance.
