This has been out there forever. When he left it was reported it was because TNA wouldn't let him work the indies and several indie even mentioned last year that TNA was finally cracking down on it by stopping even the low card workers and KOs from going to any indy that had DVD, TV, or iPPV whether their match was taped/shown or not.

I know, seeing this however just drives it all home.

Honestly, if they get a contract with clauses like that then they should be paid a guaranteed downside payment monthly unless TNA books X amount of dates.

I just hope he doesn't job to RVD. The man has gotten the short end of that fued through out his career. Lynn should get a win for his retirement.

That is one thing I can't understand with TNA contracts. If you don't work you don't get paid but you can't work else where to make money when you the company isn't using you. I mean you take a guy like Lynn a man who I would want around in any role because he good in the ring and so business smart to teach a young group of talent and not use him or pay him. Yet he can't go else where to feed his family?
Doesn't make sense too me. Either use him or release him if you can't find a place for him. Other wise if you don't want him going else where. Pay him as suggested a downside payment. Where if you can't be used on a show. You still get X amount. If you the company can't not afford that then don't sign a guy unless you have plans to use that talent every show.

This is why they won't get many good to great indy talent who don't fit into WWE.

wasn't this around the time TNA had a really bad relationship with ROH for a variety of reasons which was the main reason they made those contracts?

I'm curious if there's been any change in that policy.
Frankly, I think if TNA was really using its head it would take advantage of being able to use guys who have visibility in other companies, even ones with a minor TV presence. Part of what made the old NWA work was how talent would rotate in and out of territories and thus remain fresh, and lead to a nice return pop when they'd come back to whichever ones they hadn't been to for awhile.
Given the nature of TNA's non-World Title divisions, I think that'd be a good way to go. Sign a stable of guys who make the big money and who are around most weeks (Roode, Storm, Styles, Joe, Daniels, Aries, etc.), but rotate other guys who tend to fill out the midcard/KO/X-Division spots, let them go make money around the world now and then, and then have a cool moment whenever they return. I really don't think they have a whole lot to lose that way. It's nice to be able to say "You can only see </insert wrestler's name here> on Impact Wrestling, and nowhere else on TV!", but if you're not going to use that guy too much, what's the point?

I think policy's the same. Joey Ryan was with NWA Hollywood and subsequently, CWFH when they were doing the Gut Check bit, but as soon as he became a regular, he stopped appearing, and he was in the middle of a big time storyline. Kind of the same with Todd Kenaly on announcing.
As had been said, with as many good to great Indy wrestlers we hear trying out for TNA, and the fact only a couple have signed in recent years, shows this is still probably a major issue with talent.

I'm curious if there's been any change in that policy. , It got tougher. When Lynn was there the lower card and KOs were still allowed to take bookings with companies that had TV, DVD and iPPV as long as their stuff wasn't filmed, 2011 they stopped that all together.

Bah, very silly on TNA's part, then. Again, given the less strict, more fluid nature of working with independent companies, it'd be a great way for TNA to take advantage of the "we're not WWE, we do things differently" angle, in this case allowing talent to move around a bit and be known as wrestlers with a national/international reputation.

I'm curious if there's been any change in that policy. It got tougher. When Lynn was there the lower card and KOs were still allowed to take bookings with companies that had TV, DVD and iPPV as long as their stuff wasn't filmed, 2011 they stopped that all together. It did get tougher. One thing that Lynn kind of exaggerated was that back in 2007, they weren't exactly prevented from working indy shows that were filmed, they just had to have their indy bookings go through the TNA office, and each of those independent promotions had to sign video agreements which limited the method by which they could distribute their footage. If the promotion didn't sign the TNA video agreement, then they couldn't appear for that promotion. That's how groups like SHIMMER, WSU, and for a while PWG were able to use some TNA contracted talent on their shows and DVDs. They signed the agreements. Madison Rayne appeared for SHIMMER in late 2011, just before they got so strict. Only during 2012 did TNA actually crack down to the level of refusing to allow talent to appear on any show that was filmed, regardless of those old video agreements the indy promotions signed. Now nobody can work for any indy that even has cameras present.
