Matches since 1920 have had time limits but I am wondering what were the longest matches since then? Time limits were instituted to insure that people wouldn't be bored and of course it was profitable. But were there any matches that were longer than an hour in recent memory? Were there any matches that lasted an hour and a half or two hours in Japan or Mexico, for instance? I recall something about matches in the 80s that lasted a long time. People were less athletic but they seem to be better conditioned than many wrestlers today. Would that be a fair assessment?

I swear I remember reading about a joshi match that started on one card, the wrestlers fought their way out of the building... and into the ring on the NEXT show, the following day, in a different city and finished the match. I just can't remember where or when.

Actually, Hero vs. Punk wasn't an iron man match. They had done some hour long matches, and built to a 2 out of 3 falls match with a 90 minute time limit. That match was tied 1-1 when the 90 minutes expired, so it went into sudden death and ended at 93 minutes.

Cena and HBK wrestled for an hour in what was, I think, the longest match in RAW history. This match wasn't even close to an hour (about 40ish minutes) and also isn't the longest match in Raw history. That would be Chris Benoit vs. Triple H in a 60 minute Iron Man match in 2004 |
