I don't see how anyone can logically cheer for this douche now. I'm not a fan of The Rock, but I hope he kicks the s*** out of Punk at the Rumble. Rock's more of a phony than Punk with his faux sincerity and brown-nosing of the "Universe" even though after his WM payday he's long gone. I could never cheer for Rock.

I love how he played the crowd like they're programmed robots. Mention Ric Flair, they woo. Mention their hometown, they cheer. While at the same time, telling them they don't mean a damn, all they were were means to an end to keep him strong and get him money/power. He even did it with the Rock when he got them chanting Cookie puss pointing out they are puppets

The problem with this is that it still doesn't work.
It goes beyond people loving Punk.
It's that people want Punk to like _them_.
So when he goes on running down fans, people just think "Oh, well, he's saying that about everyone ELSE. He doesn't mean me! He means everyone but me!"

The first part was rubbish. It was rambling, it made very little sense. And what sense it did make just serves to confuse what should otherwise be just a straight up fun feud.
But after The Rock came out and got everyone fired up Punk switched on finally. His response to The Rock was excellent. But I could have done without his initial 10 minute plea to be booed entirely.

I don't think it'll work either. didn't help that the Rock basically proved him right by doind exactly the same thing Punk was doing. at the same time I thought it was a good promo. it was completely in keeping with the original Pipebomb Punk who was mad that his hard work wasn't being rewarded. that said this is the "cheer for whoever you like no matter what a prick he is" era so I bet Punk still gets cheers, especially when WWE puts him up against guys the crowd doesn't like (god help Sheamus if they had him feud with Punk).

I loved the Tyson Kidd line because it underscrored that fact that Punk couldn't give a crap about Kidd at all. It actually makes him worse that he could have the power to change the destiny of the Clays and Kidds of the world, but the only thing Punk wants to do is make more money and be in main events. Punk claimed to the be voice of the voiceless, but the voice he really listed to was his bank account and that the Chris Masters and Harry Smiths he cried crocodile tears over was to gain attention for Punk and Punk alone. Yeah I thought that was the point of him bringing up Tyson Kidd this time. In fact after he mentioned Tyson Kidd being a workhorse and getting a bit of a cheer for it, he motioned to heyman or something and says "They're doing it again!"

He's still not a heel. He can insult the fans as many times as he wants, but it still comes across as clunky and forced heel turn, with no real logic or reason behind it.

So he needs to attack a small child (not named Hornswoggle) or someone in a wheel chair to finally make himself a heel? I thought backhanding that fan would made him a rat bastard.

I wish Rock would have pointed out that the crowd cheers because they want to cheer. People aren't being tricked into it. Well, if you think about pro wrestling, yes, they are.

I don't know if it comes from overexposure, but he's more of the contrary full of crap loud cousin than an actual heel. They also missed a booking 101 moment or two. He had just wrestled a match against a guy who had been screwed over for the third time, and they put all the heat on the Shield. He could/should have been more delusional/OTT on how he overcame the odds of injury etc., or make him more active in the beatdown on Ryback. Crowds would cheer Ric Flair until he jumped Dusty Rhodes after a Horsemen beatdown. Second, they didn't have Rock hold him accountable for GTS'ing him. They had him put him over for it. Heels are insecure & jealous. Punk's rationale buries those traits way too deeply.
They have made this more about one insulting & one defending the crowd. I think they are hoping that means they will make sure nobody cheers Punk at the Rumble. He still seemed an awful lot more like Wolverine than Bullseye last night.

I think the problem before was you turn him heel and have him feud with Cena, a guy half the fans don't like to begin with, and than an unproven green Ryback. Remember the reason he turned heel in the first place was for the match Rock. Everything up until now was just filler.

What was that face Heyman was making after Punk mentioned that the crowd didn't need more ice cream?

In my view, CM Punk is better on the mic than the Rock. Punk talks and it sounds natural. Rock talks and he says the same thing a couple of times and it sounds like he's trying to remember the lines he wrote down. Plus, Punk said that his insults were childish and the Rok retaliates by using more insults.
To hell with the Rock. I hope Brock Lesnar interferes in his match and beats him for real.

Well, if you think about pro wrestling, yes, they are. how do you mean? He means pro wrestling by its very nature is dependent on the programming of their fans to accept and cheer/boo what they're supposed to. It doesn't always work, mind you (although it seems to for whatever reason in a lot of southern states), but Wrestling almost always beats you over the head with propaganda like replays, subtle indignations by commentators, body language, or just out and out telling them what the story is. Since it's live theater and not a movie, there is a concentrated effort to manipulate the emotions, pride or anger of crowds. From little things like hope spots, to a foreigner hating America, to obviously contrived votes and polls, its all intentional to guarantee as much as they can that they things evolve the way they want.
