I know this is a common gripe, but last night more than ever, I grew really frustrated at how WWE wants its top faces to act.
I am so tired of Cena and Cena-Light (That's not a skin joke either Sheamus) performing their own brand of the comedy hour before inevitably deciding that "It's time to stop joking and start fighting".
Seriously, Cena more so with Ziggler. Ziggler spent ten minutes telling Cena to stop joking around and get serious. Then Cena decided it was time that they stoped joking around and got serious.
It's lame, it's unfunny, it's tiresome and it's getting so, so old.

I don't mind the jokester face act. I just feel like some wrestlers can pull it off while others can't. It does work for Cena, it's actually a HUGE improvement for Miz, but it doesn't work for Sheamus.
If Ziggler turned face, it would actually be a better fit for him than trying to be intense and serious.

I don't mind it so much with Cena, he's been a jokester pretty much from the start.
But it's really bothering me with Sheamus. His character did a complete 180 just because they thought that one guy that makes jokes for the kids isn't enough. It makes no sense from any character point of view.

You guys don't want SRS Cena.
You can't handle it. He got serious on Ziggler for a few sentences last week and he went 'too far' to some.

I'm fine with Jokey Cena. it's how he's always been and I'll be honest more often than not I find him more entertaining the hammier he gets.
Sheamus, on the other hand, only gets less entertaining the more they try making him funny.

Given that Cena is essentially unstoppable, I say they should start booking him as a reluctant Terminator: a guy who knows he can destroy the entire roster, but fears his own powers.
The funny babyface act simply doesn't work, because it tends to devolve into the face coming off as a bully instead of the face being the heroic figure. If there's a naturally funny guy in the role, then great, let him use his own natural comedy, but the idiotic Photoshop jokes and things shoehorned in by the writers are absolute poison.

I don't get what's so wrong with the joking face act, aside from that personally just not being your thing. Being serious doesn't automatically mean being good.

Sometimes Cena doing all the comedy is annoying, but him overreacting and having the crowd do the wave was great.

Sheamus' jokes aren't funny. Nobody ever laughs, and half the time I don't think anyone gets there meaning. At least Cena's jokes are pretty obvious.

If we can get Graham Linehan to write all of Sheamus' jokes, then he can stay comedic. Otherwise, he just needs to stop. {Spoiler}Heel Sheamus written as Bernard Black would be the greatest gimmick of all time.

You know what'd be fun? If Sheamus remained his badass self as a face, injuring and demolishing heels. Yes, we'd complain, but see. The thing is, it's a set up to Cena getting pissed because THIS is what passes for a good guy, and it's so easy to tap into it. So naturally, Sheamus "turns" and takes Cena out. Which leads to Cena having a match back where he puts the fear of god into Sheamus. In conclusion, what's so funny about Truth, Justice, and Fruity Pebbles?
