I liked the promo and Billy G just wants some attention. As Hogan said he enjoyed the promo and praises punk. BRUNO is probably thinking "yeah, yeah, get in a line there, but that is the show". It really isn't offending anyone at all. Punk is a heel and took someone who did something great and turned it against them by downplaying it. If Bruno gets upset, he's an idiot.
Even back when Bruno wrestled, this was a heel tactic. Also as the above poster said, it is a way of Punk mentioning the longer and greater reigns

Can this really run any sort of risk of getting him mad? It's hardly an insult for a top heel to be trying to justify his long reign by trying to cut down his, which implies it's seen as one of the most legendary and the mark everyone ought to beat. You can really extrapolate from there that it's big a compliment; if they're writing things with the intention of courting Bruno (which I'm a little skeptical of), this would be intended to have the opposite effect.

Ironically Billy Graham has the next target for Punk's reign (longest heel segment ever, which he hits around May 10th)

Is it wrong that I agreed with Punks comments about 1 year in this era does match up to theirs?

Hogan praised the promo on Twitter. Just thought that should be mentioned "I think CM PUNK has stepped up and proved he can hold his own with anybody in the ring and anybody on the mic,he's on a roll. HH." Hogan's from a different time than Graham/Bruno and took part in the very self-aware and new-era NWO, a model which still drives heels like Punk today. I don't get why people are so offended by this. Sure, Graham is old and out of touch, but his reaction to this is pretty understandable and I'm sure Bruno's reaction would be the same. It's like your grandparents being all irritated by something new that they don't understand. It's not really worth getting angry with them over. They had a different life.

I kinda...see his point. Sammartino has footage out there, yeah.. But there isn't an extensive library like you would have with Austin, Hart, Hogan, etc. It sort of tears him down without having that level of career exposure that some of these other guys have to state otherwise. Kayfabe or not. And if its true that Triple H is trying to get Bruno into the HoF, I'd avoid the current product from having anything negative to say about the guy. Not because I think so, but because Bruno is uber sensitive about today's shows. I dunno.. I would have left that hornets nest alone until you could atleast induct him.

Bruno is also upset that they let a man who is a zombie with lightning powers wrestle for 20 years.

Is it wrong that I agreed with Punks comments about 1 year in this era does match up to theirs? Like a lot of heels these days, Punk actually had a lot of truth in that promo. But I also think it's just a different product now. Back then, it was the house shows etc that drove business. Then it shifted over time more towards television and Pay Per View, and more product = talent working more.

As others have said, the checks stopped rolling in so he's mad. Once they start getting mailed to him again, he'll praise CM Punk as one of the greatest talents he's ever seen.
Dude just needs to go sit down somewhere and shut up.

Really? No one understands why Superstar is taking offense? No. He's getting mad over untrue things that a lying, egotistical heel said in a worked promo. What's there to complain about on his part?

Really? No one understands why Superstar is taking offense? No. He's getting mad over untrue things that a lying, egotistical heel said in a worked promo. What's there to complain about on his part? Because to old bitter ex employees it didn't come across as a heel being heelish, it came across as Vince using his puppet to take a swipe at Bruno's legacy. The sad thing is, none of us can say it wasn't. We know what Vince is like. We know what guys like Graham and Sammartino are like and how over protective they are with their legacies and their need to hate the current product. So why was that line even spoken during a time when WWE is supposedly courting Bruno to try and get him to play ball during WrestleMania weekend? Is it because WWE is incompetent? Is it because Bruno turned them down again recently and Vince is bitter? Is it because Bruno has signed on and this is leading somewhere? What did HHH think when he heard that line? All we've been getting are reports that HHH is trying to build a bridge to Sammartino. Surely a line like that (knowing Sammartino) isn't helpful. Then again WWE doesn't usually bring up Sammartino's name and when they do its usually not to take a shot at him. So while we've heard Sammartino moan and complain about the product for the past 25 years, maybe he's perfectly fine with his name being brought up in a promo for a current heel to crap on.

It wasn't really a "heel" point though. Punk's kind of a tweener in that he still panders as face to certain fans that eat up his stuff about Tyson Kidd, etc.

Is it because Bruno turned them down again recently and Vince is bitter? It would be the least surprising thing ever if Meltzer reports that Bruno broke off talks right before this RAW. And I'm certainly not a Vince hater, I love cranky old Vince, but it's right up his alley to direct that line after getting jilted.

Hasn't Vince always bee very respectful towards Bruno, much like he has been with Sting?
I really don't think it was a jab by Vince, they've been trying to induct him for the last 9 years, why would Vince get upset now?
He gets on with Triple H supposedly and Bruno will know how old school heels work better than most. If they were worried about it possibly upsetting him and breaking off the deal (if there even is one) I doubt they would have done it. Or maybe his buddy Triple H called him and asked permission or forewarned him.
Billy Graham is an idiot, this is a huge non-story really.
