It's part of the reason that I made John Cena and Randy Orton a tag team in WWE 13.
But there's no way, if that was a real team and they got the titles, they'd lose them clean.

Cena and his partner would elevate the titles briefly while they have it. They'll then streamroll through all the other tag teams in the division, thus making them all look like jokes. They'll then lose the titles in a very screwy fashion, so as not to make them look bad, but at the same time not making the team that won it look good. Then the division will go back to the way it was, and Cena's tag team reign will never be mentioned again. If you pair Cena with someone like Bateman, Ryder, Ted Jr, or Riley, then their jobber status will keep Cena's Superman status in check, and balance the team out. Cena could never be too invincible because his jobber partner would provide a "handicap" of sorts. The partner can easily be made to cleanly eat the pin, which would protect Cena.

I like it. I think it'll happen too, but not quite yet. Once he gets to his late 30s, he'll maybe start to dial down the workload a bit.

For fans that claim that Cena shrugs things off too often: notice that he rarely ever acts nonchalant when he's concerned about someone else. Ryder, Tatsu, Cena Sr, Lawler in the steel cage, AJ before the inevitable backstab, all brought out Cena's empathy. SANTAAAAAA!!!

Ideally I have Cena and his partner (not Orton, more of a jobber) chasing a heel team's tag titles, hence why I mentioned the Shield as an example in the OP. And Cena can easily take one or two fairly clean losses duiring the chase if his partner's distracted and he gets double teamed. And once they eventully do win the tag titles, I'd have them lose it to another heel team after about four months, so no, of course it wouldn't be clean. (Mind you, I think top faces should rarely ever lose clean, if at all.)

Cena needs a faction. So he can elevate at least one mid-carder and a tag team.

Yeah and then everyone complains that the Tag Titles are main eventing pay-per-views

Yeah and then everyone complains that the Tag Titles are main eventing pay-per-views Well that's the thing. Cena should main event a PPV once in a while, but the problem was that he was main eventing all the time. Maybe having Cena as a tag champion main eventing for a few months while they test out someone like Ryback who is good enough to be WWE Champion, but not yet ready to actually be THE GUY would work. That's why people hated Cena main eventing over Punk. Punk was already good enough to be a true #1 and he already had his "test runs" with the WHC a long time ago, so there was no reason for Cena to be booked above him all the time, unless it was done purposely to set up the heel turn and feud with The Rock

I wanted Cena to tag with Ryder after the loss at Mania would seemingly humble him last year.
