With the two facing off last Monday and seeing this, this morning... The mind is baffled on how the WWE could miss such an easy storyline. Bring in Steamboat's son to face off with Barrett and go from there. However, They might change his name? What...?

I think the issue is that if Richie does come up if he goes straight into an Intercontinental title feud he may be rejected by fans.
Not saying that Wade is mega over as a midcarder (anywhere but Britain) but he's established as a relatively dangerous opponent so him losing so quickly after he won the belt may be counter-productive.
Unrelated from the topic's subject I don't really like Richie despite him being solid in ring.

Sigh, Ted DiBiase is probably on his way out, it's not going to kill them to have another wrestler with his dad's name on the roster.
Also, if anything, call him Richie Blood, then.

It's not that Barrett would lose the title so soon in my opinion, I just think it's a natural idea for a debut. He doesn't even have to win the match, just give him a semi-strong showing and go from there? As for his name, it's going to turn out like Michael McGuillicutty (who? ) If they change his name. We, the knowing fans, at least, will know who he is but he'll have a crap name that'll drag him down into obscurity.

Good point, I think I let the "shock victory win!" trend WWE has in the past cloud me a bit, but you're spot on with giving him a strong showing if they do debut him against Wade. I do hope he gets to keep his name (maybe change the first part) even if I'm not a fan though, such a distinctive name that it'd be a shame to lose it.

They've already established that his surname is Steamboat, changing it would be stupid unless they make him a heel that wants to get out of his fathers shadow or something (and given that he seems to share his dads natural babyface charm, probably wouldn't work).

he could be Richard or Rick since I think Ricky was always Ricky.
He could be Sam after his storyline grandfather. Maybe Jay after Ricky's former tag partner, Jay Youngblood.

Speaking of Ted Dibiase Jr., Manu, and Cody Rhodes (former Legacy members) it's interesting to note how great they developed Cody's persona (he gets chants from the crowd literally every time he's on TV nowadays-- and he's a heel!) versus the sorry-sack-of shit storyline they gave to Manu.
Ted-- he was given opportunities galore and put in high-profile matches (even resurrected the Million Dollar Belt and reduced himself to Mr. Cheap Pop Dibiase Posse Dude) and still couldn't get over. So while I'm sure that 2nd/3rd/etc.-Generation Superstars are-- on paper-- given an advantage in the WWE it's not enough to just rest on the laurels of your father/mother in this business to make it big. Cody's own personality shines through moreso than anything resembling the American Dream-- same with Goldust actually.
Ted and Manu weren't much more than shadows of their fathers (and ironically they never escaped from their daddy's shadows), and I kinda see the Uso's going down the same road currently. Makes me glad that Michael McGillicutty is taking such a unique approach to being a 2nd Gen wrestler, but atm Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes-- I would also put Tamina in this group as well-- as the exceptions to the rule that 2nd-Gen Superstars are hella overrated.

I bet they'd just change his first name they don't like Jrs. and Richie sounds kind of childish. Well Richie is already distinguishable from Ricky, so why bother changing it?

Richie Steamboat is really the perfect name for him. If they make him something like Roger McFadden or Ricky Steamboat Jr. then they really would have dropped the ball

I figured Ricky Steamboat's involvement in the Barrett/Marella business was just to distract the half-attentive viewer from the fact that the first Raw of 2012 and the first Raw of 2013 both had a Barrett/Marella squash.

I thought Ricky Steamboat's appearance was just some hype for the 20th Anniversary RAW It might not have may anything to do with Richie at all. They just want to book a "legend" on one of their special episodes.

maybe Ricky will challenge Barrett to a match (seeing how they didn;t really do much with the "you'll see how much smoke this dragon has left in him" line as Ricky didn;t really do much). Barrett wins and is about to take ricky out with a chair or something when richie comes to the rescue.
then Barrett plays the "you haven;t earned a shot" card when he demands to avenge dad's getting beat up. richie beats up JTG and 3MB a few times before pinning Barrett in a Teddy long special thrown together tag match.
Barrett says it's a fluke, says richie couldn;t last five minutes with Barrett. richie does and gets a title shot, now it's after a couple of months on the roster so he's not just "arrive- get title match- win"
