the best Sonic adaptation ever? Doctah Ivo Rrrrrobotnik. Seriously. Long John Baldry should be very proud of himself in the afterlife for putting such a Shakespearean spin on a classic villain. Even the writers knew he was carrying the show and took the focus off of those two rodents Sonic and Tails. That said, I could've done without all the butt shots, though. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

This was probably my all time favorite Sonic cartoon. This. Did not care for the Sonic SatAM cartoon, but loved the books.

This show was just plain fun. Wacky, surreal environments, fun music (seriously, who DOESN'T love Robotnik's theme from this?) and Long John Baldry himself being gloriously hammy. It was the animated show that most captured the vibe of the early games, while at the same time being suited for animation with its Roadrunner-esque plots. Also, I still find it amusing that one of John Baldry's songs in his long (and excellent) music career was "Setting The Tail Of A Fox On Fire". Ties in nicely to the role of Robotnik. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I enjoyed Sonic X.... ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Gotta go fast! I guess Sonic X was okay, but I just wish it focused more on Sonic instead of Chris...

SatAM is easily my favorite Sonic show (and one of my fav cartoons period), but AoSTH doesn't deserve the poor reputation it gets in comparison. The animation is very bouncy and well done, and it pulls off a good Looney Tunes dynamic without becoming a cheap copy.
X was decent despite the Chris overload at times. He wasn't a bad character per se, but the show rarely got into Sonic's head and how much he cared about Chris. It would have been far better if we got to see the other side of their relationship and Sonic's take on it, so maybe Chris wouldn't have seemed as clingy.
Underground can f*** off.

I, too, am a SatAM loyalist (Jim Cummings' Robotnik still reigns supreme to me in terms of how I most envision the good doctor as a villain), but as a voiceover novice I have nothing but pure, unadulterated love for Long John Baldry's Robotnik voice.
EDIT: Funny fact - in the original test pilot for Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, legendary voiceover artist Gary Owens provided narration and Jim Cummings was still in line to play Robotnik, albeit the humorous version of him.
Then the network said they wanted more of an adventure series and less of a silly one, thus giving birth to the Saturday morning cartoon we know today. Cummings stayed on for that, Baldry was brought in for Adventures.

I never got into the SatAM version, but I heard it was good. I liked Robotnik (I refuse to say Eggman, he will always be Robotnik to me) as a funny villain.

I never got into the SatAM version, but I heard it was good. I liked Robotnik (I refuse to say Eggman, he will always be Robotnik to me) as a funny villain. It's not completely easy to get into SatAM now, as opposed to when it first debuted; some things just feel dated or what have you, especially after it's clear they had to deal with budget cuts in the second season. For its time, however, it really was a very interesting attempt at what was still a pretty new development in Saturday morning cartoons: a more adventure-based series, sometimes with a continuing story arc (most of season 2 revolves around Robotnik's attempts to construct the "Doomsday Project"), usually helped by the fact that the two main heroes were written to have a good rapport and the main villain was genuinely scary. Given the era it came out it, it really stood out, especially because it was done using a licensed character; the idea of licensed characters getting a series on Saturday mornings like that was borderline revolutionary. It goes to show what's so funny about Sonic fandom, however; many people see SatAM and say "I never imagined the old Sonic games that way", and many people see it and say "that's a lot like how I imagined it!". To me, that was the real beauty of the early days of Sonic: Sega of America, of Europe, and of Japan each were allowed their own takes on the characters and backstory, and the games had enough varied levels that one could imagine Mobius in any number of unique ways. In the case of SatAM, I get the vibe like the creators got some inspiration from watching gameplay of the Scrap Brain Zone in Sonic 1, for example. Mario always had a more overarching vision instituted by Nintendo, but Sonic just always felt more "open for interpretation".

I loved The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic actually outsmarted robotnick and had fun doing so. SATam had too much Sonic jobbing and occasional instances of him being a dumb ass. It's only by luck that he happened to beat Robotnik at the end of the episode. He's Sonic doesn't job, he's the goddam Hedgehog.

I have never seen Sonic Underground before. It looks... different. My cousin's 4 year old daughter was watching it on Netflix when I visiting them. I love SatAM's theme song. Never cared much for the show, as I said before, but that song was great.
