I know there's been some negativity towards JBL on commentary over the last few weeks, and it's fair to say he wasn't at his best, but MAN did he make up for that this week.
Some of his comments were gold, like not going through the usual "oh, poor Hornswoggle" routine all announcers do, hitting back at Josh regarding the Shield ("you want answers, tough guy? Go ask THEM!") but his commentary during the Del Rio/Big Show match was just flawless.
He made it seem like Wrestlemania was happening right damn NOW. I think he almost made himself hoarse at the end there. A world title changing hands should be an enormous event in wrestling, and JBL really sold it to everyone listening. Great work.

He was much better last night than he has been recently. His commentary after the title win really put over Alberto, the title and the situation as a whole. It felt important, and commentary rarely has that effect for me these days. In contrast, Josh Matthews sounded like Cole-lite.
It's great that Lawler was able to come back, but I wish they'd kept the JR/Cole/JBL tandem. That was the best team they've had in years...even if that unfortunately isn't saying much.

I'm still wondering how Josh (the "lead commentator") was silent when Del Rio won?...
JBL made Del Rio's moment.

"And I can't believe what Booker T did here, this is absolutely unfair! There is absolutely no call for this handicap match, 3MB needs a couple more people out there"

I thought the title meant he was as bad as "The King" Lawler.

Has anybody mentioned that he said "We've got a new champion!" a few seconds before Show was counted out...and then we really DID have a new champion? I think that's the first time I've ever seen that happen. Once I heard that, I figured Show was gonna flip the table over or something. But no, we really DID have a new champ! An announcer actually called it!

His call of the title change was JR-esque. Awesome stuff.

In general he was great. One small nitpick, I wish he'd drop the "these guys couldn't play a jukebox" line with 3MB. Yeah, it's not a bad line per se, but I feel like I've heard it a thousand times now.

Knowing how the match was going to end, it was very refreshing to hear JBL put over Del Rio. He does a good job putting people over but he over does the putting down, IMO. He was on point for that whole WHC match though, it was great.

I just generally enjoy how JBL, a heel, will randomly root for faces (ADR, Booker T, THE FREAKIN MIZ and Sheamus) and diss heels that are supposed to be getting annoying-heatz (3MB) rather than the predictable heel color routine (i.e. Striker's work on Superstars). Him putting Booker T over as a great GM, and singing the Miz's praises even before Miz turned face is just a refreshing change of pace for commentary.
I also really enjoy when he emasculates Josh. Really.

I loved his little putdown of Buff Bagwell. "It worked out great for Buff Bagwell when his mother did it", was so snarky and insiderish, plus the fact he said it in such a dry tone, was great.

He was good, pretty much the same as he was in 2007. Really put over Del Rio and sounded excited without sounding pretencious like Matt"LOL MARKIN OUT BRO"Striker.

I love JBL, especially with the Josh Matthews dynamic. Matthews is the absolute perfect straight-man to JBL, almost Kermit the Frog-like in the sense that he just wants to keep the show on-track and JBL just bulldozes next to him. A pretty interesting change from the "how can you say that?" face/heel commentator dynamic.
While I don't think it would work with a Ventura, Heenan or Lawler because their jokes were/are often dependent on an outlandish reaction, JBL's dryness absolutely shines with Matthews.
