I'd been putting off playing it until I had a lengthy break, and finally beat it just the other day. Despite it's many, many problems (Snow, the absurd linearity, the absurd amount of padding, and the Crystarium), I actually found quite a bit that I genuinely liked about it. But is it just me, or were they the most useless heroes in Final Fantasy? {Spoiler}The Big Bad's plan is to get them to destroy Orphan and take out Cocoon. They vow not to do it. So far, so good. They fight their way to him and kill him.
And then they kill decide to go ahead and kill Orphan, depowering Cocoon, send it nearly crashing to the world below if not for Fang and Vanille's deus ex machina crystal bullshit, and now all the sheltered people from Cocoon have to live on the hellacious Pulse.
They did exactly what the villain wanted them to do. I mean, sure, villains have won in FF games before, but at least FFVI's heroes tried to stop them, and at least Ramza accomplished something, these guys said they were going to save Orphan and stop Barthandalus, then did exactly what he wanted them to do after killing him.
They would have accomplished more if they just stayed home.
