Having beat Fallout 1 and 3 and being on my way to beating 2, I wanted to give Tactics, the often maligned spin-off of the franchise a try, so I got it off GOG and I must say... I'm very pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, the story is clearly f***ed and can't possibly be connected to the main canon of the series, and also the visual style is a bit different from the rest of the franchise as they seem to have gone for a more sci-fi-ish look than the more realistic industrial & military look of the other games (well, as realistic as Fallout can get), but I still like it. I think the style works for this game and the gameplay is a thing of beauty. It's fast (you can switch between turn-based and real-time combat), surprisingly easy to get the hang of, and it's very satisfying to send a raider flying with an array of bullets from your squad, a geyser of blood erupting from his body.
So basically, if you can get past the discrepancies with the rest of the series and take it for what it is, it's a very good game and I'd definitely recommend trying it out.
EDIT: also, do not get it confused with Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, the more action-oriented PS2 & XBOX game.

Take the Lo Pan challenge. One dude, fists only; see how far you can get. Savescumming is ok.
I got a good deal into the game, until I started to run into supermutants armed with .50 cal brownings. Savescumming couldn't even help me then.
